A man was working on his bikes when his mother-in-law walked into his shed and asked "why do you have 5 motorbikes" he answered "because I can't afford 6"
I have a norton ES2 56 engine in 62 featherbed frame (now basket case "for sale") 78 SR500 now doing a ground up 81 SR500 rego'd but with big screw in rear tyre 98 MZ Skorpion Sport project (just finished) these 660 Yam engines go a bit harder than a standard SR500

Previously owned 1964 Honda CB150 (I did about 10,000 miles, the next owner did nearly 100,000 miles ) 1965 BMW R50/2 (comfortable, reliable, lack luster) 1963 AJS Model 18 (ankle breaking bone shaker) 1973 Ducati 750GT (should have kept this one!) 1981 Ducati 900SS (very pretty but fragile big ends)
Presently own 1977 BMW R75/7 (nearly complete project) 1980 BMW R100RS (good for long trips on the freeway) 1979 Morini 500 Sport (good fun but needs constant attention) 1981 Morini 500 Strada (future project) 1979 Yamaha SR500E (best in town but good for long trips if not in a hurry) 1979 Yamaha SR500E (cafe project in progress) 1993 Yamaha SRX600 3SX (my lowest mileage everyday commuting bike)

Well I'm guilty of not knowing about the SR500 - until found it via Brit bike and cafe racer searches
Always loved the BSA Goldstar, particularly the DBD-34 Clubman Always liked Yamaha's
The SR seemed like the perfect solution
My current list: Triumph Scrambler 2007 BMW R65LS 1984 SR500 1978
and way up the backof the shed: AG100 1978 two ct110's early 90's

I bought my first SR500 over twenty years ago, thinking it was the next best thing to a Brit single. I have since discovered that it is an excellent bike in its own right, exceeding most Brit singles on most points. When I am told it "lacks the character of a Brit", I read "its more reliable".
