While the SR500 is my favorite bike, mainly because of its simple beauty, I do have a few others in my stable. I love to hear what others have in their garage. So I'll start by showing you mine. These are all currently owned, in order of year of manufacture.
1978 Yamaha SR500 with Velorex 560 sidecar 1980 Yamaha SR500 100% original 1980 Yamaha QT50 Yamahopper 1981 Yamaha SR500 Cafe project 1981 Yamaha RX50 Cafe project 1983 Yamaha XT600Z Tenere with MZ Superelastik sidecar 1984 Yamaha XT600Z Tenere 1985 Yamaha RZ350 track bike (lost my spleen on this one) 1986 Yamaha XT600 1988 Yamaha DT50 Rallye kit 1991 Yamaha XTZ750 Super Tenere 1993 Suzuki RM250 1998 BMW R1100GS 2003 Kawasaki KLX400SR 2004 Triumph Bonneville T100 Cafe
For Sale: 1969 Bingham Mark I sidecar 1977 Yamaha XS650 (100% original) 1980 Yamaha QT50 pit bike 1982 Yamaha RX50 2000 Suzuki SV650 track bike - sold
As you can see, I am a Yamaha guy at heart. My first streetbike was a 1981 Yamaha XS650 Special. My first bike was a Honda Z50. I wish I still had both. And I love thumpers. My current favorite is my SR500 sidecar rig.
My advice... Never let your wife see all of your bikes in the same place. When possible, have as many in the same color. That way you can always talk about "the red one" and she'll never know.

I dont know how much I can contribute to this as although I have owned a few bikes, I dont know what ones are "must haves." I currently own: 73 cb500/4 81 cb125s thumper (if ones wanted to call it that, maybe more a thumpie) 01 SV650 Hopefully soon an SR Out of these I would recommend the SV. I bought it new in 01 and pretty quickly realized it needed suspension. I remember riding fast around the back roads and having to ride slightly raised off the seat it would buck so much. Sooo... I installed stiffer fork springs, cartridge emulators, and a penske shock, then new tires. Next were rearset plates and a cafe bar.. which soon turned into vortex clipons, then the rearset plates turned into woofcraft multi-piece rearsets and more tires. I did some asthetic mods, but tuning and suspension were more important as they impacted me daily. Im not smart enough to get bikes of similar color.. I just come home one day with a new bike much like my wife and stray cats .

Okay cycomoto, I'll snap that lure... Currently owned: 1973 Triumph Tiger 750 1979 Yamaha SR500
Previously owned (in order): 1977 Yamaha XS400 1989 Honda GB500 1979 Triumph Bonneville 1978 Yamaha XS400 (mild cafe) 1976 BMW R90/6 1971 (?) Yamaha R5 1968 Honda CL350 The only two bikes on the second list that I wish I still had are the '78 XS400 and the GB500 (due mainly to the ease of maintenance/ownership). The GB is the only new bike I have ever owned and I racked up over 30,000 miles in two years of ownership.

Only other bike in my collection is a fresh-out-of-the-barn 1975 Honda XL 250. Still had 125lbs of compression, so I figured it might be worth saving. It'll make a good beater bike.

I'll join in... My current stable includes: 1971 Triumph Tiger 650 (must have bike) 1980 SR500 1982 BMW R100 (must have bike) 2001 BMW R1150GS (must have bike) 2003 Honda RC51 (must have bike) 2004 Honda NSR50 (50cc, 2-stroke racebike) 2003 Honda Ruckus (zoomer, 50cc, 4-stroke scoot) 2005 Ducati Monster 620ie that was kind of depressing, I didn't realize I actually had that many. I definitely have a problem. The problem is, with my "Must Have's" it leaves little wiggle room for adding to the stable. ....I need a bigger garage.

I have about 14SR500's in bits under the house, and a slare couple of motors I think, it helps having them stripped down and out of sight so the wife can't count them easily....one of the SR's was Wayne Gardners daily ride when he worked in a bike shop, the tank still has the shop stickers on it [ wonder if he wants it back? with double the rear wheel HP?] guess I better make a move on them.....maybe two at a time?

Gardner's been doing some classic racing on a Matchles G50 Carl, so seems he likes the 500c thumpers.
Maybe a Batey Gardner Special is on the cards?

With Wayne's resources he could go the stud through, 587cc titanium valved monster that I would like to see on the track versus the G50, it revs to 10,500 and makes max power from 4,800 to 10k, try that out of a british single on pump unleaded! go the Yammy's!! on a sad note, Barry Sheene saw my old road bike at Eastern creek and we swapped cards as he said he wanted to ride it, but we all know what happened only weeks later.......Bazza wanted it real bad and he knew it must have had some stick, he could see every modification against stock in a minute! lovely guy, so unaffected by fame and genuinely nice.....should have got my picture taken with him.

Just bought one more SR500 and have added a sidecar to another so I thought I would update the list. Planning on adding an SR500 for parts that I just found.
1978 Yamaha SR500E (just added) 1978 Yamaha SR500E with 1974 Jawa Velorex 560 sidecar (my favorite) 1980 Yamaha SR500G with 1969 Bingham MK I sidecar (just rigged) 1980 Yamaha QT50 Yamahopper 1981 Yamaha SR500H Cafe project (in process) 1981 Yamaha RX50 Cafe project (in process) 1983 Yamaha XT600Z Tenere with MZ Superelastik sidecar (in process) 1984 Yamaha XT600Z Tenere plus a parts bike (someday) 1985 Yamaha RZ350 track bike (lost my spleen on this one) 1986 Yamaha XT600 (near perfect) 1988 Yamaha DT50 with Rallye kit (looks like a mini Super Tenere) 1991 Yamaha XTZ750 Super Tenere (my second favorite) 1993 Suzuki RM250 (really too fast for me0 1998 BMW R1100GS (for banging out miles) 2003 Kawasaki KLX400SR (this one gets the most use/abuse) 2004 Triumph Bonneville T100 Cafe (too much money invested, but super cool)
Plus, another 1974 Jawa Velorex 560 sidecar waiting for a mate.
Everything is painted black so the wife can't tell them apart. Just kidding.
For Sale: 1977 Yamaha XS650 (I bought this to restore but am focusing on the SR500's)
So let's hear what you've got. I'd really like to know what Stew has hiding in his garage. :-)

I used to own a Honda GB500. In fact, I've had three. A mint 1989 (#1) that I sold to my best friend because I found a mint 1990 (#2) that was built with a 600 motor. In my opinion, the GB500 is one of the most beautiful production bikes made. Honda got it right. Just nobody knew it at the time. It was a ton of fun to ride but I always felt the 500 was underpowered, hence the purchase of the 600. Turns out the extra 100cc's didn't do much for it. So I bought a basket case 1989 (#3) to put an XR600 engine in. Now that would be a fun bike! But, after some soul searching last year, I decided that I had too many bikes and projects and needed to thin the herd. As I've said before, I am a Yamaha guy so the Honda's got the axe. Sold the 1990 (#2) to a collector and the basket case (#3) with an XR engine to a guy on the west coast. Last time I spoke with him, he almost had it back together. I am sure that I will regret selling the 1990 (#2) someday. But my buddy still owns the mint 1989 (#1) so I get to look at it as often as I'd like. My plan is to get my SR cafe together this winter to put the Honda in its place. My two cents... the SR500 motor is immensely more fun than the GB500.
