Feeling enthused about my battery eliminator success, I built a carbon seat base.
I removed the seat, tank and mounts. Wrapped the seat frame tubes in duct tape. I then took some pex tubing and fit it over the side cover mounts (to keep the seat wide enough at the front). I then wrapped the area with dacron fabric, taped it down. and used a heat gun to shrink it tight.
Next step was to use spray glue and stick on a layer of fiberglass as carbon can be conductive. I use West system epoxy and painted it onto the fiberglass. My next step was to apply carbon fiber. I used some 15oz triaxial fiber. I put on 2 layers in pieces applying epoxy between each layer.
I covered the future seat base with strips of dacron. To help it keep together and keep it intact while it cures.
It is difficult to photograph the steps as the epoxy makes a mess.
Next plan is to shape it and add a tailbox. I'll get a photograph put up once this cures.

The seat base is cured today. I unwrapped it and peeled it from the bike. It looks pretty normal for such a thing. The edges are unfinished, it needs to be trimmed. As it is it weighs 17 oz and should be less once trimmed although I might add some flox in the mounting areas. It fits on my bike perfectly. I experience almost no flex when sitting on the seat base which was mounted on the bike. Here is a photo of it.

Excellent! I really enjoy watching a custom part develop.
Looking forward to following along with your progress.
Keep up the good work, G Man

I have been working on my tail cone. Right now it is rather large and wraps around the rear wheel somewhat. I made it by heat molding 1/4" pink board into shape, gluing the boards together with two part foam. After shaping, I am applying a single layer of medium weight carbon. Probably will use steel or aluminum brackets to mount it to the bike. No photos yet, too much work.
