I joined up a few weeks ago and all you folks have been helpful and taught this old dog some new tricks already. I'm a transplanted New Englander (been in So. Cal 25yrs now) but have lived or visited all over the U.S. except Alaska. Bought my first Yamaha thumper in South Carolina, a new '76 XT with that ugly brown paint job. Man I loved that bike. I had been thinking about turning it into more of a street machine for awhile as I was doing about 90% of my riding on the road when my buddy ran it into a parked car and totaled it. I took a trip to the local Yamaha shop and low and behold there in all her Black Gold glory was the girl of my dreams, 1978 SR500! It was love at first sight. The Yamaha guys had done the job a hell of alot better than I ever could of. I rode away on that bike and putted happily for the the next 14 years until some SOB stole it. I had a couple other bikes but the SR was always my favorite. I got married (don't ask me what I was thinking) and the bit..... I mean my wife didn't like motorcycles so I cleaned out the herd and was in cars or trucks for the next 10 years. After my divorce (it was expensive but well worth it) I contemplated what was missing in my life and concluded it was motorcycles. I went to a buddy's shop and asked him if he had a bike around for me to look at. He said, "There's your bike right there." It was a 1978 SR500E in Black Gold clean as could be and stock except for SupperTrapp exhaust. I'm in love again! Yours, Steve

Lucky, lucky, lucky. Congratulations and welcome back from the "Abyss". Friend of mine was saying about this stock market: "It's WORSE than a divorce. I've lost half my net worth but still have my wife!" He's a most unhappy fella, ya think? Anyway, ride happy and ride safe........glad to have you on board.

Welcome Steve. Great story, and I can relate a bit. I bought my SR used in 1983. I rode it for seven years, then I got the itch for something bigger, which ended up being a new BMW K100RS. I sold the SR to my brother for the same price I bought it for, and rode the Beemer for 12 years. My brother decided to step up to a newer Yamaha sport bike, and I casually mentioned that if he was going to sell the SR, I would be happy to take it back. It's been back in my garage since 2002, parked next to the BMW. I split my riding time pretty evenly between the two. They're different as night and day, and both put a smile on my face. Something about riding the SR makes me feel younger.
I've looked at new bikes over the years, but none of them have tempted me to part with the K or the SR. I hope you get much enjoyment from your new love.
Dale
