I've been lurking for a couple months now, and have enjoyed reading the threads so much that I just joined the forum. As luck would have it, I hail from Ohio as well. (A couple other newbies posted recently from Ohio). I ride a 1981 SR that I have owned since 1983. It's stock except for some minor modifications, which include a White Bros. pipe, Supertrapp baffles, Lockhart oil cooler, stiffer rear shocks, Shoei fairing, and shortened bars.

Welcome Dale.
I think you will find this a good home with a lot of good ideas for keeping the ol' gal running and shinning. You may have some ideas of your own to share with the group. I look forward to your input.

Welcome Dale! I am in Mansfield, what are of Ohio are you in? I just bought a second 78 SR today! I pick it up tomorrow in Pickerington.

Thanks for the warm welcome, guys. I would be glad to post some pics, but I'm not set up on any pic servers.
Most of you have way more technical experience than I do. One thread that recently got my attention is the "surging" at part throttle. I've experienced a bit of that, but it's been intermittent. Each time I think I have it solved, it will raise it's ugly head again a few rides later. From looking at the plugs, I know my SR is running lean. The surging is not critical, but it is annoying. If I solve it for my SR, I'll be happy to share the remedy.
sclow303, I'm only a half hour south of you in Mount Vernon. I ride up to Mansfield quite a bit, and lots of routes north ands east of Mansfield. Good luck with your new SR!
