Andy - my 78 is different, the label says "ND NIPPONDENSO" and underneath the number "070000-035 0". Finally "Made in Japan" under that.
Physically my unit looks like that one, but the label is definitely different.

Sonomaser,- I believe the CDI box on ebay is from a 1980/81 model, I have 3 SR's, my 1978 model has the same CDI box part no as yours, 070000-035. The one on ebay has 3HI-50 on it, this is the same as on my 1980 and 1981 models, CDI box 3HI-50 (070000-051), (1980 model starts with 3HI and 1981 model starts with 4R8), I did some time ago mix a 1978 stator with a CDI box 3HI-50 and the bike would not run correctly above 3500 rpm, replaced the CDI box with a 78 one (070000-035) and problem solved. I myself would not mix these up as Yamaha identified the CDI box with 3HI-50 on it, to indicate that they are not the same, but please have this checked out, as I am no expert

All the USA CDI boxes(78-81) will interchange. I've mixed and matched 81 in 78 and vice versa. Charlie

Hi Andy, Here is the one from my H model ('81)... I looked at my E model with a mirror...not easy to access on this one and the other one has no numbers left on it. This one said -035 I think...in reverse with a tiny crack for the light. Certainly not -051... SR

The yamaha items DO NOT interchange.
The Hyperpak will
Strange that.
