Well, here's a little preview of what I've accomplished so far on my little backroad burner. Still got a way to go, and due to the vast amount of inspiration available on this forum, I doubt that I'll ever be completely "finished" with it! Now, I figured out how to post one photo, but couldn't figure out how to get the others to copy & paste on the same page. I have a headache from trying, so I'll leave it at that for now! Anyway, I've gotten off into the motor now. This is the first motor I've ever tore down all the way, so this is a new and very interesting experience for me. I am a mechanic by trade, in the food service industry, but my experience is limited to slicers and vacuum packaging machines! I have all of caferacercarl's VMX articles, and am going to try and do a proper Stage 1 rebuild using his advice, and the advice of many of you here on the forum. Thank you all, and special thanks to solo2racr for his advice & patience. Jeron

Awesome start! The blood red tank looks great with the Yamaha emblem. Can't wait to see more as you progress, Jeron. Excellent!

Glad you guys like it. Trying to keep it simple & clean looking. A sleeper if you will. Kinda like my KLR 650 you can see bits of in the background of these photos. Don't plan on winning any drag races with it, but it dumbfounds the shit out of squids when they underestimate the power of a thumper in the twisties! A few details: Most of the black on the bike was powdercoated locally. Rattle can on some of the smaller parts. The tank was powdercoated "Anodized Red" by a guy out in Virginia. It only cost me the initial $12 S&H fee to have done because it took the guy 2 months to finish it! Can't complain for the price, and it looks great. Will probably have it pinstriped this winter. The front brakes are all Brembo items picked up from e-bay, with Daytona rotor spacer and caliper hanger from Adrian @ Vanem. I got a pretty good tax return back earlier this year, which allowed me to purchase the Daytona polished stainless front & rear fenders, and Peyton Place seat. All through Vanem. All very well made. Really transformed the look of the bike from what it looked like in stock form. My girlfriend asked me what I was going to do when I finished building it. I told her I planned on riding and enjoying it! Trouble is, I'm already looking forward to building another one! Jeron

Looks great, nice color red, I wouldnt have thought of powder coating a tank. Emblem looks just perfect on it. I to have issues posting pictures & here you go and do to in one day. Good luck & maybe a better tax return this year, Dave

Thanks to all of you! Dave, it took me about 20 minutes of screwing around with cut & paste & a printed copy of solo2racr and G Man's instructions on putting pics in post for the beginner to figure it out, sort of. I'm very computer illiterate, so if I can figure it out, about anyone should be able to. cafekid, I got those bars from Spiegler Performance Parts. They are LSL Street Bars. 1.75" rise, maybe 3.5" of pullback, 32" wide. I really like 'em. Stew, The first source of inspiration for me to do something with my SR was the Aug. '97 Classic Bike article featuring you and Dean Maynard. Many thanks to you, Stew!

Heh, heh...thanks mate. I am glad I had some small influence As you may have gathered I have been passionate about these machines for many years. Great how that article got around. Dean sold his bike then tried unsuccessfully to buy it back...should see if he's ended up with it now? Yours will be a nice looking bike. SR
