Wow, $16,999.
That's 4 times what a standard SR-400 goes for in Japan. And Japanese products are usually more expensive in Japan than outside it. For some reason I was thinking Deus sold them for around $12,000.
So Stew, how is this working? If Deus can get SR-400s into Australia from Nippon why can't anyone?
There must be a catch, or at Japanese domestic prices for a standard SR-400 (not Deus prices) why aren't all you guys down there riding new ones?

Their average buyer is the new, older ages motorcyclist, who's previously happily wasted 10k on "classic styled" scooter, so offering them "a real bike" at a fraction more seems like a deal to those guys
When they first open i was told by one of the owners there (not sure which one, think the ex-surf brand owner) that they negotiated brining them in on the onus they only sold modified ones as Deus bikes, and couldn't sell standards.
So, don't know what changed.

Jajajeepers fairly hard to justify I think ! (a mate of mine showed me a pic of it a couple of months ago & I thought they had $18.999 on it)If I could get a quarter of that for each of mine I'd be doing better than the stock market & me super yigada yigada cheers Dave.

To be fair though, nobody is forcing us to buy them, and they have actually done some good stuff for SR's, at least down here in Australia. In a few years time the stock standard SR400's will be hitting the market - probably for around 6k or so, that have been regularily serviced, bogstock engines and possibly some trick parts on them. We'll all be cheering then. For people like me, and others that use some imported parts they use they have also done good stuff for us. Three or four years ago, from what I understand, Japanese SR trick parts were things talked about reverently in quiet corners at the 500 club.
In all honesty, I find it hard to justify, as do most people on the forums, but if I was an exec earning $150k a year plus and wanted to buy a toy, I'd spend 18k on one quite happily. No hassles, no mechanical problems, a local dealer. Just go in, pick your parts, wait a month or two and bang. Flash bit of kit delivered to your door. We aren't their target market, and like I say, noone is forcing us to buy them. All they are doing at the moment is forcing up the cost of second hand SR500's, with some "ambitious" prices being asked for lately. But i feel that was bound to happen anyway, where it sits on the LAMS list.
That bike looks like it's got aftermarket Seat, Muffler, K&N's, Speedo, Headlight, Headlight Mounting Brackets, Gas Tank, Rear Fender, Tail Light, Ohlins front and Back, Rearsets, Indicators, Clipons, Triple Clamp, Throttle cables et al. Works out to be over $4000 in parts using Deus and Vanem prices (which are actually around double what they go for in Japan, not counting sales tax) Looks like it'd be about $3,000 charged to the client in labour.
Whether or not you buy their stuff they have done a lot of good for SR's in Australia. For every five blokes that buy a Deus SR one person might become genuinely interested and make the SR live on that little bit longer.
Rant off!
