I'd almost given up hope on my SR..
As a quick update, I bought it for a song about 6 months ago, and just could not get the thing to start. No spark. I tried different coils, plugs, CDI boxes, you name it. Stator tested good.
I took the SR to a local custom builder, King Custom Cycles - he usually takes older Hondas and turns them into bobbers. I dropped the SR off at lunchtime Friday, and he emails me this morning telling me that he's cleaned it up and it's ready to ride home..
I was a little scared, wondering how it could be fixed so quickly, but sure enough, I rode it home!! Amazing!!
Now, nobody told me about the torque of this bike, but it started just like everybody said it would (push until you feel compression, hold compression release, push slightly, let off release, kick hard) and it started. Dang, does this thing pull for a lightweight bike!! My last ride was a Kawasaki Concours, and while it's not freight-train fast, it holds its own, that's for dang sure! My wife drives pretty hard and she couldn't keep with me..
I've still got some basic work to do, but I'm now super enthused. I'll get pics up ASAP!
I'm glad that I'm now going to really be a part of the thumpin' community!!

Excellent! Now for the riding part...they do pull nicely down low, especially with the pumper carbs. Lighweight, good handling and they'll cruise all day at 110kmh (roughly about 70mph)...enjoy it. SR

Milkman, there were several wires that weren't connected properly. Stuff that I could have fixed myself (but also stuff that I may have caused myself..) He built me a custom battery box, cleaned out the carb, did some general cleaning on the tank and chrome. It really looks good now, not that there isn't a little bit of work to be done to get it really looking good.. Next steps - I need to get the front brake working. I need to figure out why the speedometer isn't working. I need a new clutch handle. I need to either replace the foot shift lever or bend it back out a little bit. Everything after that point is cosmetic I don't know how fast I was going on my way home (see the "figure out why the speedometer isn't working" above) but it definetly cranks out the torque! I probably only hit 55 on the way home, but it didn't have any trouble getting me there.. I can't wait to get it really roadworthy and see what it can do!!
