Is there a copy of an original SR 500 manual on line somewhere. I need some very basic info. that doesn't seem to be here. Like...re: the choke lever...what position is it supposed to be in when you want it to be full choke...down? (on the leftside...which pulls the thing up on the right side)..and what with that weird petcock...is there no actual OFF position?..what position for starting?

On the choke (enrichment) lever, down is on and up is off. The fuel petcock is a vacuum operated one. The fuel only flows in the ON or RES positions when the engine is running. The PRI position defeats this and will flow without the engine running.

Petcock can be in the Prime position or On position for starting. Enrichment lever is pushed all the way down for full choke. It took me a long time, and with suggestions from Soloracer and others, finally figured out the sequence to start mine. All seem a bit different (must be female). Mine goes this way: key on, kill switch to "run" (don't forget! It happens!). Full choke, indicator in window and kick. DO NOT TWIST THE THROTTLE. Turn off the choke. Indicator in window, kick start lever in 12 o'clock position and kick. Should pop. Indicator in window, kick start lever in 12 o'clock position and kick. Mine starts. Since the carb is a "pumper" you are getting fuel.....no need to use any throttle.
Hope this helps.
