Sol is being marketed agressively here, almost as the next Corona. Pacifica was my favourite mexcian beer. It was a bit "fuller" and i like beer in a brown bottle.
The "lite" thing was a confusion in the US (being low cal, not low alcohol like here). I think me and my mates were the odd ones out sticking with the regular. Low Calorie beer is like ordering a supersize buger meal, with a diet coke - not much bloody point.
Its friday - everyone research this weekend and report on monday

What a great thread Fenz, Dave was right quite a few amber liquids have passed over this blokes tongue the past few weeks. As a Melbourne born boy, I've had my fair share of the CUB product but there is a lot of beeter beers around now. I'm a bit partial to the tooheys extra dry (teds) but the platinums are a bit over the top at 6.5%. Hahn premium light is my choice of light beers. Crown lager is over rated, the newer "low carb" beers aren't too bad either. But the bestest beer is the one you don't pay for, as long as it's cold!!

Here in Canada, the most popular beer is Labatts "Blue"...although I prefer "Becks" from Germany. There's some micro-brewery's that produce some really good brews that give the big brewery's some competition. Is there anything beer can't do? Cheers to all. This has to be the most popular non-SR topic ever, on this forum.

Mick, I'm with RD on that beer you have. You just box it up and send it over & RD and I will make sure it's all right to drink. It's a small sacrifice my liver will have to make in the name of home brew. Milko, you'll be please to know I went out like you said and did some more research. Did not come to any conclusive results and think I better go out tonight and follow up on last nights results. I have a confession to make in my haste to start my research last night I dropped 2 six packs(Stella's & Red Back's) in the garage. All but 1 were lost. But fortunately the sole surviver had to be put(drunk) down. Now to clean up the mess and wash all the wasted glorious alcohol of my bike. Curly

Curly I never thought I'd hear a NSWelshman admit to drinking a Westoz bear (Redbacks from Matildas) hmm they are not to foul either . Its a pity you smashed em & you didn't get smashed by em cheers Dave.

thanks why i don't drink beer made in the USA, it's horrible. I think your selling us short . On the west coast you have Sierra Nevada Brewery. Great pale ale. You have the Rogue brewery with Dead Guy Ale and Hazelnut Brown Nectar( tastes much better than the name). Also here in the east we have the Highland brewing company Gaelic Ale and Oatmeal porter. Redhook ESB and Long Hammer Pale Ale. Natty Greene brewers have a bunch of good stuff. All sorts of micro-breweries starting up. Do more research, it's fun. What do the guys in OZ think of Fosters Bitter (green can)? I kind of like it for a once in a while. Hard to find here though.

Bah! There's nothing wrong with VB. It's all just snobbery! I'll also happily enjoy a Carlton Black, Guinness, Smithwicks or Tennents. Having said that though; a well made homebrew beats them all hands down.

In south aussie and you have'nt drank knappstein beer from the clair valley? it's the undoing of both the wife and I, she loves it, Southwark premium lager is great chilled a bit more than normal, sharers lager from picton in sydney, yumm, and don't get me going on those belgian beers, sex in a bottle, what about "delirium tremens" 9.8% and wow! or Leffe beer, I'm going down to the bottlo now, enough of this!! Carlton Black, send it back I love dark beers from Kent Old, Tooheys Old to Guniess, but Carlton Black and me don't see eye to eye.
I think the sldge on US beers was aimed more at the mainstream ones - Bud, Millers, Coors etc
I again tsted some under the harsh Australian sun at the cricket, but went Belgian for some reason - Stella. Byt he time we won in the last over, I was very very celebratory.

Hi guys I have found a very nice beer in Hawaii called "Tequiza" not available here is Aust . just beautiful , I bought a six pack back from holiday but when I got home aal but one had popped the tops off inside suitcase , was my wife impressed !!!I don't think so ...TC

An interesting factoid I read in a brewing industry journal/magazine. (I tried Guiness years ago in a pub here in Oz, and did not like it one bit. Tasted like burnt wheat to me.) Apparently, when Guiness was considering expanding to Oz, they did some market research that told them Aussies liked bitter beer. True enough. Export Guiness was thus altered to make it more bitter. Turned out that therefore we were getting this bitter black tar stuff that was nothing like the real Guiness. Fortunately, Guiness saw the light, and allegedly we now get original recipe. This could all be urban legend, but I am inclined to believe it, because the stuff we get now is black velvet. Smooth, thick and delicious. The beer every home brewer would love to emulate, but unfortunately very few of us have the facilities to inject nitrogen instead of carbonating it with sugar and yeast, not to mention sending some old guiness sour with the right bacteria before adding it to the new brew. I've often wondered whether adding a can of guiness to the new batch would help, but hey, who can crack a can of guiness and resist drinking it straight away? Some people reckon it has milk added to it as well. I have to say its in my top three beers. Its one of the reasons that my dream in life is to have a nice long holiday in Ireland. Imagine a smokey Irish bar on a rainy winter night, sitting round the fire listening to someone playing a fiddle or guitar, a pint of guiness in your hand and a wild Irish rose sitting on your knee, your loud cafe'd SR or goldstar at the curb outside, I reckon you'd never want to go home. I note that Bize is enjoying his VB in a bottle. Is he, like me, convinced that beers taste better in the bottle than they do in the can? Last time I was in the Northern Territory, almost all VB was in cans, they told me it was due to keeping freight costs down, and I felt it just did not taste as good as bottles. Lets have a vote people - aluminium or glass? Mick
