Here's my question..
An SR500 will run without a battery.
If I chopped the battery terminal wires off and taped them off, will the bike still run??
I've checked everything, stator readings are good, coil readings are good, tried a half-dozen spark plugs, tried a different CDI box, and still no spark.
Then I get to thinking - what if the wires to the battery aren't complete? Would that keep me from getting spark?? I'd just go out and connect them if I weren't at work for the next three days, so anybody with some experience would be great..
To summerize - if the battery terminals aren't connected, will the bike spark? What would happen if the battery terminals weren't connected?

Don't do that.
Read the posts on a battery eliminator first.

Just cutting and taping off the battery leads will likely damage something electrical, at least blow light bulbs. But it has nothing at all to do with the spark/ignition system. You could remove and discard the battery, battery cables, rectifier/regulator, keyswitch, killswitch, head and taillights, turn signals, flasher, and more from a working SR and it will still spark and still run.

Is the inside of the flywheel clean? Not that would make a difference, but you could look. Try a third CDI.
If I were to buy another SR500 first thing I would do is spend $400 on a stator rebuild from RM Stator and a Hyperpak CDI, assuming neither had not already been done.
Just my opinion.
