Hey Guys
I just fitted my new Keihin 38mm CRS tonight and I have a bit of a problem, I can't get it completely upright it hits the frame and leans to the left about 5 degrees. I even used a Wellington manifold which is angled supposedly to avoid this problem. Have any of you used this carb/manifold combination and have you had this issue? Will the carb work ok at this angle? I will have another play tomorrow but in the meantime any help would be appreciated.
Cheers Rich

It will work OK but they are a bich to jet correctly, its all about the needle in the CRS and they are unique to that carb, I have about 5 needles only and probably need to get some a bit thicker on the straight diameter just to cater for different engine tune variants. cheers. talk to stew ross.

Thanks Carl
Once I get a chain and sprockets for it i will bring it up for some dyno time. I have had a bit more of a look and by Shortening the throttle stop screw so that it is further into the adjuster plate and by removing some material from the box section at the very end of the backbone (where it's not really doing anything anyway) I think I can get it almost vertical. Will talk to Stew as he will have to go through the same thing as well.
Cheers Rich

Go back to 520 and get the "supersprox" ones from any bike shop, they are great, 17/40 on a modified engine is great everywhere, cheers !

Hi Rich, Mine misses nicely because I use an aftermarket Mikuni rubber manifold...from Ian Williams Tuning! SR

Hi Stew
I shortened the throttle stop screw so that I could screw the whole thing further into the adjuster plate and now the carb is so close to being upright that I won't bother doing any more work on it unless I run into problems further down the track. I started it tonight once I finished the exhaust it must be jetted pretty close it started first kick.

I had similar problem with my raised intake port SR500( mixture makes a ~55 degree turn instead of the ~70 degree turn a stock setup requires). The "turn" is the angle of the carb/intake track to the head or stem of the intake valve. I had to grind the 36 Mikuni-flatslide pumper carb and to slightly grind the frame a bit to fit the carb in there.I also had to use a small slip on type foam carb filter. No way could I fit a stiff K&N type filter.
Luck, Charlie

Hey RD, Is yours a CRS 38MM carby specifically set-up for the SR? Carl put me onto these ones ages ago, and I think they might have a slightly different shaped cable retaining bracket compared to that of the standard CRS 39, to suit the SR's frame...they also come with the front spigot machined to suit a Mikuni manifold...from Kei-Hin! Hi Stew
Mine is exactly the same as yours but mine is mounted on a manifold from Wellington, all bought from VANEM. the manifold turns the carb so that it is straight, in line with the bike.

Hmm, perhaps that is the reason it's hitting the frame...? SR

Hi Stew Yes it's running, starts the easiest it ever has. at the moment I am trying to work out where the ignition switch is going or even if I am going to have one. headlight and speedo are fitted up. Just finishing up fitting chain and sprockets and getting the wheel spacing correct with the new swingarm. Come around and have a look sometime I will send you a PM with my number and address. Cheers Rich

Pity I can't go the rally anymore as there are a few committee people that would be fronted about what they have said and then I would show what I was trained for, maybe I might take some of my 4RAR mates to stop me and tell certain people to behave ,as a lot miss my going to the rally and they have told me that nearly 100 members did not renew membership over the whole debacle, have fun stew and laugh at the cheech and chong van for me
