Hi There, I originally had the carbs rejetted and a SUper Sound exhaust put on my SR400 by Deus. Last weekend I happened to pass by and they were having a swap meet... I managed to snap up a Triumph Bonneville replica (I think) already previously fitted to either an Sr400 or Sr 500 for $50. It was in what appears to be excellent condition. Anyway simply bolted the Super Sound off and bolted the new one on. Easy right!
1. Unless I am dreaming the bike is more powerful? Is this possible?
2. The exhaust is quieter? Not happy bout that... is there a way I can keep the new exhaust but somehow make it louder? Doesn't thump the way the Super Sound did???
3. I like the look of the new one. Is there a need to rejet the carbs? What does rejetting mean?
Feeling a bit dumb right now. Sorry for the daft questions...
Cheers

Marlon will probably chip in about the Supersound exhaust. It may never have been tuned properly in the first place - a lot of Deus gear is bolted on (barely) and the true performance not really measured
If you managed to get something from Deus, for $50 -and its not T shirt - I would imagine its a stock muffler off one of the Triumphs or W650 they have modified - these are whisper quiet, just pulled them off my new Triumph
What speed have you had the bike out at? if you've just been doing more lower rev range riding around town, the new muffler which is probably more restrictive might have given you more back in the bottom of the rev range, and hence the bike seems faster?

I reckon you'd be right Milkman. Nice quiet restrictive muffler would probably boost bottom end power, but will probably be a disappointment at highway speeds. I imagine that, if this is the case, the bike be a touch rich at highway speeds, too. Only way to find out is to spend the weekend trying it out in all conditions, at all speeds. Wouldn't it be truly neat if we could all afford our own dynos? Mick

If it is like the bullet style but about 35mm straight thru it is around %20 up at the rear wheel from the other pipes, I can supply the correct jetting specs for that pipe for the 400 and the 500 carbs, its the best pipe they had................................much to the shock of many............. as it looked not quite as "fast" as it is........................cheers.

you can have the payments on my machine anyday...... but its my trade tool and took 26 years in the trade to justify the need for it, but any shop who has a proper one is looking after you and your bike properly and not guessing at your expense.
