Just need some advice on my rear drum brakes which have developed an annoying squealing noise lately. Any ideas what the best way to remedy this is?

Clean out the dust...wear a mask...perhaps the shoes are worn or are glazed... SR

Right on Stew. After cleaning out your brakes, wet sweep (spread wet saw dust then sweep it up, or similar) your shed floor, or vacuum it with a vacuum cleaner with disposable bag. Almost guarantee that if your brakes are original they will have plenty asbestos in them. The other day I wanted to affix a bracket to my fibro house. I was wearing a mask as I drilled, and I reckoned I couldn't see any airborne dust. Then I looked at the wall of the house and I could see the shadow of the dust on the wall. Fibres so fine they weren't visible at first glance, but when I moved around and got the sun just right, there they were just sparkling away. Niiiice. Mick

By the way, there is a product called Brake Clean, I reckon its spelled Brakleen on the can, or something like that. CRC brand I reckon. My muckanic mate deglazes brake shoes and pads with it. Seems to do the job. Mick
