Hello, people. I'm a Brit living in the US, recently bought a 'stored' (e.g. decrepit) '79 SR500 as a first cafe project. The bike cost me $250, so I'm not looking to pour money into it but so far the bike seems to be all there, all parts present, no battery in it but the motor turns fine & has good compression. A little like it's current owner, in fact. So far, I've stripped it down, rebuilt the brake calipers & cylinders, wheel bearings, steering head and swingarm pivot. Currently polishing engine side covers - it'll get a top end rebuild in the next couple of weeks but if the cylinder bore looks OK I'm inclined to leave the bottom end alone. I've also - put clubmans on it, moved the battery and regulator/rectifier under the bubble-type cafe seat I made from a sheet of ply and a crash helmet I found next to a dumpster (told you it was a cheap build!!), polished the front forks & steering head, repainted the frame and tank So that just leaves new fork seals, the carb, rewiring, upholstering the seat......
