Hello all. I posted a thred were i asked for advice on an original exhaust replica for sr 500: sr500forum.proboards38.com/index.cgi?board=Exaust&action=display&thread=2296But now im thinking stuff the special insurance! I have insurance and its not expensive at all. But my Supersound exhaust looks like "edit". And that wear and tear is after just 1 very short season. I would guess ive done like 300 miles on the bike because i had to fix the engine in May/June and i bought an XR600R and got totally fixated on that bike. Im thinking about getting a new exhaust, a very loud one but wich still looks nice/cool. An open exhaust could be what im looking for. The BSA style maybe. I have the 78 US model with the big disk brake at the rear tyre so it have to fit that kinda of SR. Could you guys lend me some advice? Links for online store's? Pictures of exhaust that i might be able to track down? Any help would be much appreciated The supersound exhaust is stainless steel so im told i can sand it down with wetpaper and then polish it up again. But i cant do this like every 2 weeks. I dont have the patience or the...well patience

Sorry to tell you about this now - but the Supersound exhausts have to be among the worst on the market today.
After hunting around for a while i settled on a Peyton Place exhaust. It's bloody well made, good looking but a bit pricey at $600-something AUD. Might be worth checking out Vanem though.

Hi, Put on a polishing buff that pipe may polish straight up...probably no need for sanding. Perhaps re-use the polished header and get a more useful muffler... Depending on your idea of styling a Staintune Conti replica comes to mind...now they are not what you would call quiet and to my mind thay look great! Here is one on my road bike... SR

I'm pretty keen on these exhausts you've been talking up Carl.
Any clues about the style? Is it a Conti style? Megaphone? Up and under?

The staintune exhaust looks pretty good. Very shiny Any idea on the link to the webshop or something? I have to calculate if it will not rape my budget Also open for more examples of exhaust that would be nice on my bike. Here's a picture..

I view the samples tommorrow, they will be reverse cone mega style ,long bullet style, [like the one I made for the green "Stinky" bike at Deus,] BSA bend headers in both 1 3/4 inch and 2 inch, a stock style bend header and probably a couple of other muffler combo's but all one piece mandrel and tucked up so as not to scrape [ like ALL japanese aftermarket ones] and designed to flow past 16hp [unlike ALL japanese aftermarket ones] I have tested some 14 different pipes on the Dyno, and these are some 30% up at the rear wheel, will see if I can scan a Dyno chart on here soon to show everyone [ just finished the "chainsaw" engine] and tried theirs and mine on the same engine.....as for price.....it should be a fair bit cheaper than the import pipes they have. cheers.

Sounds good! Nothing like a bit of local R&D!
Now I guess we've just got to wait for Deus to pull their fingers out...

I contacted Deus a couple of days ago requesting information on these forthcoming systems designed by Carl. They promptly responded, and informed me that they were in pre-production right now, but should be ready in about 3 weeks. Definitely looking forward to seeing the end result, and, seeing if they keep the price at a reasonable amount. Jeron

I removed the supertrap in my endcan and made a aluminium piece to cover the holes for the screws. This way i now have almost an open exhaust. The sound and performance is much better. I think ill buy a "magic" thingie from Vanem that is good for discoloured exhaust. Ill try to repolish the header pipe when i pull the engine later this fall. And if the discolouring happens just as fast at least il have something to use on it to counter that process. Cold here now and the snow has already come over 400-600 meters, so not much left of the season if anything At least it gives me time to fiddle with my bikes...
