All the trasmission parts seem to be available from Yamaha in the U.S. at least — where the SR-500 hasn't been sold since 1981. www.partforyamaha.com/pages/parts/viewbybrand/2/Yamaha.aspxMy understanding is that Japanese regulations require manufacturers of motor vehicles to keep making parts available for 10 years after the model is discontinued. Weren't SRs still being sold in Europe until 2003?

I haven't checked, but I think that they would still be available here in Aus as well...or we could probably also get them through Deus or Vanem direct from Japan... SR

They are just starting to "NLA" some part numbers here now, just use the new "3GW" parts manual and make sure the gear it meshes into is new also, as the new gears have 'oval dogs' instead of the "old flat face" type, but otherwise identical in teeth number and fit on the shafts just like the older ones. [just found this out recently] cheers.carl.
