Here are some pics of Soonerfan's SR project which also show the bolt on rearsets he just got from Solo2racr. Great looking unit Paul! Maybe you can add some detail on your work when you can. Here is a cut and paste from our email: Awesome work. Looking forward to more! G Man p.s.: Ken, I need some of those rearsets too!

Thanks for posting these, G-Man. That's Trouthunter's aluminum swingarm...very nice piece. Building this bike at a friend's backyard shop. Some shop! He's got table lifts, air tools, lathe, drill press, parts cleaner, sand blaster, you name it. Probably has 50 restored Yamahas. He's been a big help to me, offering lots of advice and a helpful hand along the way. So far, it has been a joy. Can't wait to fire the bike up..... ;D

What a nice looking SR. Were did you get that perfect seat(cover) ? Have you considered to paint the rear break rod black ? so it will be less visible ? Have you any idea of the total costs, and are you willing to tell us ? Anyway, fine bike !!! ;D

The seat cover was done by another friend of mine. The foam was still good and he had the material....it's a matt finish soft naugahyde and he had a remnant left over from another job. $60.00 for his labor, gave me the material. Total cost to present is unknown....I'm afraid to add it all up....but a close estimate would be 3K including the $700 I paid for the bike. Have an inventory of parts to install...such as the front end. The big expenses are out of the way.....I'm sure there will be little ones awaiting.
The project has been a hoot so far. Spent more than I figured I would, but it is less than a new bike would cost me, unique and what I want. When I "finish" it, I'll be looking for another! Too much fun!

Thanks, Gary, for the photo postings. I'm learning the tricks of the kick start process. First trip was to K&N for a carb tune with the exhaust gas analyzer....some highway speeds on the way. Not used to the higher rpm's and never did find 6th gear! Expect one changes sprockets for lower rpm's if on the highway much. Now it idles like a sewing machine and accelerates strongly. 30 mile shakedown, returned home and next morning checked for loose fittings. Today did some twisties and grinned a lot.....recalled my college days of riding a light, quick bike one can fling about.......it has been worth the efforts, for sure. After repeated brake bleedings, I've ascertained that it is requiring a brake line replacement....a bit spongy for my tastes. And I'll be looking for some replacement fenders......maybe find them stateside....stockers are a bit "fat". Thanks to all you Forum members for assisting, some aiding in the cash-ectomy from my wallet. It's been a worthwhile project, and the results are satisfying.

Mate, my advice is leave the fat fenders on there and put big bomber tyres on to fill 'em up. A 3.50 x 19 4PR K70 Dunlop does not leave much space at all in the front one for example. Now I know its not a Battlax, but it still hangs on enough for me to scrape the footpegs in 4th gear on my favourite tight twisty road. Then whack a big 4:00 x 18 4PR on the back. Like a big German Shepherd puppy, all feet and ribs. Mick

A great looking machine! ;D There are some really good looking SRs starting to appear these days. Keep it up! I found that going to braided hoses on the front made 'about' a perceived 30% increase in power...attention to detail, well worth the effort! SR

Braided brake lines are on there. No worries now! Have a place here that makes 'em while you wait....total for both: $55.00. Now I can open this beast up without any trepidation....surprising torque. Didn't realize I could put a fatter tire on the bike, but I've always had such good luck with Metzelers, went with a stock size. Maybe when I get those wire spokers.........
Thanks for the tips and the compliments, guys......she's a work in progress!
