My local Yamaha dealer has OEM SR 500 parts ordering easy. K&N Yamaha in Tulsa, OK. Their website is www.knmotorcycles.com. Simply go to the OEM parts button, click motorcycle, click on your year, then click on your model. The selection of components will be available in groups, with exploded schematics, descriptions and SKU numbers, pricing. You can order what you want and have it shipped the way you wish, and use your credit card. Simple and easy. I didn't look, but I'd bet they have that rear fender.

I don't know what year bike you have, but mine is an '80 model (SR500G). I pulled the front fender-rear fender page up and it listed the SKU#2J2-21610-00-93. Price is $146.16 and description is rear fender complete, chrome plated. My guess is that the 78-81 years all use the same fender. Hope this helps....you could call them....ask for Pat. He's the parts manager.

sfsr, where are you? Not trying to pry, but unless I know what continent you're on, it's difficult to point you to parts. Shipping and customs have a way of screwing an otherwise good deal. I haven't followed soonerfan's link, but another site that gives the "official" price is: www.yamahapart.com/It lists the chrome rear fender for $160. But the fender is in two parts. You may also need the plastic fender that attaches to the front of the metal one. Unless you're restoring the bike — or just want to have all the parts so you can put it back to stock when you want to sell it — why not fit a different fender? Something cool. Until bobbed, the stock chrome fender looks pretty clunky to my sensitive, artistic eye.

bigshingle, I'm in San Francisco. I just got the bike over the weekend so I don't really know much about it or the parts available. I appreciate the link though. Can you point me in the direction of some cooler fenders? thanks

K&N's website is very similar to the above link, with SKU#'s, diagrams. etc., but their pricing is 20% off...hence the difference in cost. And yes, he'll need the inner fender...but if one wants to restore to original or needs an OEM part, it is a good place to start. I have to pay tax on this stuff....you guys don't! ThumperStuff is a good purveyor of aftermarket items as well.....and Mark has some OEM parts. He's very prompt and helpful. Has a lot of inventory and some very cool "cafe" related equipment. Some items one needs to replace just have to be OEM parts and K&N Yamaha in Tulsa seems to have good pricing. BTW, the "N" in K&N filters and the "N" in K&N Yamaha is the initial of the same man....and I think this dealership is the oldest Yamaha dealership in the US. Mighty good folks to deal with.

I've noticed this summer that I can't bring up parts diagrams on Yamaha dealership sites when I do the make/year/model search. I have to enter a part number (I use the rubber grommets for the rear blinkers) and click on the one that is listed for the SR. It will then bring up the entire list of parts diagrams and you can select anything you want. I have no idea why it does that.

I have a complete parts bike I was going to cafe out eventually.
That being said, if you need a rear fender, the inner fender and some other parts, I can probably make a deal for you. I am guessing you would also need a stock tail light?
Drop me a PM if you are interested.

sfsr, well, if you lived in Jordan, Minnesota... There's a guy there who drives all over the U.S. to find junk bikes, brings them to Jordan and dumps them in a field. You could walk around his yard and no doubt find lots of fenders that would work. Probably there's no place like that near SF — real estate's too valuable to use for dumping old motorcycles. Over the years the chrome on my bike's fenders and chain-guard has started to pit. Before I pay to have them re-chromed or pony up for new ones ($$$) I'm going to look for alternate parts that can be painted and coach-striped. There are 103 motorcycle fenders on eBay today, some starting at less than a dollar, and one or two of those might be made to work. Some guys I know who up to now have been doing expensive custom work on Harleys aren't as busy these days as they used to be and are willing to weld mounting tabs on a fender at a bargain rate. Or you could just make your own tabs and bolt them on. For re-sale it would be good to have the stock parts if you can get them at a reasonable price (Karamsay?), but you also have the option of being creative. Think about what kind of seat and taillight you want too. If you're going to stick with the stock seat, cowl and taillight they will limit the non-stock fenders that will work. The neat thing about an SR is you can have a cool ride without spending a lot of money.

karamsay, I pm'd you
solo2racr, thanks for the link. I think they are out of stock of sr stuff...
soonerfan, thanks for the info
bigshingle, I will make sure to check out the junk yard in Jordan next time I'm in Minnesota, haha
I would like to get creative with this bike, but I browsed around and checked out some cool looking SR's and a lot of them still have the stock fender. If I decide to keep the bike, I will eventually change the seat, maybe a dual seater cafe style, but right now I don't even know what fender would go with that. I also have to get the clutch replaced, tach gauge fixed, fender added, handle bars and lights changed before I venture into changing major things. One step at a time I guess
I'm glad I found this board. I still really know nothing about my new bike, but this board has been really insightful already
