Does anyone know how the box ratios compare from a SR to a TT? I have a TT gearset and thinking that it may be a closer box than the SR's. Or even the primary ratio. Same or different?

I reckon they are the same. Unfortunately my hard drive containing a full copy of the haynes manual died so I cannot check, but I'd almost be tempted to bet a beer on it. Mick

All the gearbox ratios are the same, as is the primary ratio for the SR/TT and XT gearboxes. From memory the length of the SR countershaft is slightly different to the too the TT/XT countershaft, but it is a long time since I compared them.
The only other difference that I know of in the gearboxes, is that the early (pre '78) XT and TT's have a different selector drum from the Sr and later XT/TTs.

Thanks for the answers. I never thought to look in the crappy Haynes manual. Didn't figure they would have had it in there. The only thing they show are a few final drive ratio changes over the years. I was hoping to be onto something. To bad no one makes a 6 speed box.

All gearboxes are perfectly the same with the one and only difference, as CJ already mentioned, that early XT/TTs' selector drums have a plain-bearing on the right side, whereas all others have a needle bearing there.

both Over and Kedo sold transmission with different ratios
normal:1/2,357 2/1,555 3/1,190 4/0,916 5/0,777 race 1/1,824 2/1,350 3/1.087 4/0,913 5/0,808
you just have to find the right gears to make your own on your trannyshafts
