Nice machine. Expensive radial master cylinder Brembo brakes are a nice addition!

I have taken some of the parts of Serena - just the basics, mudguards, seat, petrol tank, chain guard, side panels, wheels, starting this weekend to remove the engine and get her back to just a frame before starting again.
I will post some piccies later on - the air filter has to be seen to be believed - it kind of looks like a mutated alien body part!!!
Thinking of the colour scheme now - looking at pearlescent black or blue, not too sure yet.

Hi Andy,
Thanks for the welcome! I didn't get much chance to "fettle" this weekend, but did get the chance to remove the petrol tank and front wheel, I have stripped down the front brake to clean it all up. I am getting to the point now where I need to get the engine out and strip it down.
I want to keep it pretty much stock, get her rrunning well and then add and remove bits over the next year, the tank, side panels and seat cowl need painting and the seat needs re-doing. So a lot to get on with! Anyway also got a job to do during the week, until I win the lottery anyway!!!
Regards,
Robert

Thanks for that. I took the seat off the cowl yesterday, it was rivetted in 12 places! There are a couple of rips and tears in the seat so it needs re-covering, I have also noticed that it has rubbed quite a bit against the tank. As its a tight fit I don't think it was on the original bike, I reckon it ghas been added afterwards. I really think it looks good though...

Thought I would add an update on Serena, its been a while...
I have cleaned up all the chrome on her, I was surprised how well she came up to be honest, I checked on re-chroming and was staggered at the cost - I was quoted £120+ for each mudguard, £70+ for the grabrails (each) and £100 for the chainguard, so they will have to wait, I will scour the bike jumbles for a while. Took the engine out and at the same time rerplaced all the wiring I could, the originals were looking and feeling rather old, I have steam cleaned the outer casing with a home steamer which has really brought the outer casing back to life again. The tank, side panels and rear seat cowl are all away being sprayed, the tank was a nightmare though, it had just about worn through at the end near to the seat and needed a big repair job, but jobs done and hopefully will be back soon. Main jobs now are - sort out front forks, they have compressed air valves on the top which I can't get any info on, replace the rear shocks as they are dead, new chain, sprockets, re-cover the seat ready for the rear cowl, replace tacho and mileometer as they look old. Lastly sort out the compression cable, this was removed for some reason by the last owner(s) but looking at the engine I can't see what this pulled up, I think this may have been removed, the manuals don't give much away about this.... I am sure someone here has some info though! Well thats it for now, sunday is here and for once its sunny in old blighty!!!

Hey Bertman, I found your other photos pretty interesting too. So you've been to Melrose. Lovely spot isn't it? I hope you hoisted a stubby or two at the North Star Hotel? Coopers or Southwark beer of course. Couldn't ride all that way to drink anything other than South Oz beer. If you went through Melrose you must have gone through Horrocks' Pass, and maybe Germein Gorge? My favourite piece of twisty road, coz its too rough and tight for the sports bikes and they always but always chicken out. Liked your picture of a "bloody big lorrie". For anyone else that has seen the photo, that's a triple road train made up with "b" trailers. Most triples use "a" trailers and dollies. Imagine the same "lorrie" about 8 metres longer, with 4 more axles, and you get the picture. Mick

Melrose was a really great place, the Horrocks pass was a fine road. We had ridden from Perth down south and across the Nullabor which was amazing, miles & miles of scrub so Melrose was a little like Wales with the green hills and twisty roads. The only thing that bettered the Horrocks pass was the Great Ocean Road, now that was great fun!!
Well I have finally got my tank back - completely repaired and re-sprayed so tomorrow Serena is having the oil changed and being nicely fettled - Got to make sure I get some heat going in the old garage though, forecast looks a tad chilly - but I am sure the Canadians on this forum will tell me -5 degrees is still tropical!!!

I didn't get as much done last weekend as I had hoped.... After chasing round doing "housey" things - fixing the bl**dy shower etc. I finally got the tank on, connected the fuel lines and put some nice clean petrol in.. She started on the second kick!! Only lasted about 10 seconds and died, but then started again on the first kick - lots of smoke and spluttering this time though, the smoke eventually stopped out of the exhaust and around the top of the header pipe, she then settled down and sounded really sweet. Nice smells you can only get from a real bike as well. I wound up the throttle and the revs increased somewhat - but then just stayed at the higher revs even though the throttle and cables were free - so I think a bit of a clean of the carb is needed? Or have a longer look this weekend and check it all over again. It was good to see her running again - she really sounded good...

Excellent that you got it running...the carbs can be a pain if they start failing. Perhaps consider getting a 36 or 38mm Mikuni for the long haul...I'm setting one of these up at the moment (38mm) on the weekends...I'll let you know the settings when I finally sort out the jetting if you're interested.
