I know this is vague but I got my 80 SR running and it runs along fine and then quits, I pull over and wait for a minute and it starts and runs fine again. One time it did it twice in two miles. I thought it might be the petcock diaphragm so I converted it to conventional 'off, on, res'. The next day it ran for 50 miles, I parked it and when I started it later that afternoon, it ran 3 blocks and died again. Mark at Thumperstuff said I need to start at the spark plug and work my way through the wiring, checking for bad grounds and seperated connectors. Does anyone else have a suggestion of where I might look? Thanks - Rod

Make sure the plastic rear guard is not touching the CDI unit or you will lose some of your 15,000 volts

Somewhat bizzare advice There's nothing like 15,000 volts in the CDi box and it touching the mudguard won't make the slightest difference. Dirty fuel would be something else to consider once you have checked all your connectors, spark plug etc.

Just a side note I put a NGK Iridium spark plug in my bike had some erratic problems. Then all of a sudden the bike would not start or run, for some simplistic rememberance I changed the plug & all symptoms dissapeared. My imagination was on all the other things that could go wrong on these 30 yr. old bikes, good luck although I think I was damm lucky Dave
