I think it's because it's quite easy to go and get a full sized bike, without the hassles of getting another grade of licence.
Personally the bobber-ish SR500 is growing on me a bit. No ape hangers or anything daft like that, but some of the bratstyle SR's are pretty d**n cool.

Just think of what you want your SR to do.
Obviously, if you're after a bike that'll do weekend runs through the twisties it won't be the best.
As a city runabout, one of those choppers would be great. The small fuel tank wouldn't worry you too much, nor would the thin seat. Also, watch out going over speed humps with shocks that short! It's also getting to the stage where nice cafe'd SR's are a bit run of the mill, it'd be great to see something unusual out there.

I built this frame for an SR bobber. Once the street tracker is finishished I'll get on with putting it together. Its all there, wheels, forks, engine, mudgaurd, just needs time and that other precious commodity - inclination!

The Japanese are WAY behind the curve, but anything "Western-chic" and they are all over it. Choppers are beginning to wane in popularity Stateside. Don't know if it has simply run the course, the economy backlash or what. The orientals, being smaller of stature and the SR being so prevalent over there, make this chopper craze a natural. It's kind of a shame, really. Hate to see good handling go away for style.....I've ridden a Big Dog chopper....it goes and stops and that's about it.
