I've been email procrastinating all day with a mate with whom I ride and procrastinate a lot. While riding together on the weekend, I almost had a head-on with a truck (passed between it and the car I was overtaking on a fast narrow road in the twisties) trying to keep with him. He was speeding. We've been talking safety all day - my stupidity has shaken me - and he commented that maybe he should get an SR too. That is, he should sell his rather sterile-at-legal/sensible-speed Triumph Sprint, on which he can become competitive with other big bikes, taking stupid risks, and get instead a bike with character like the SR, but in this context, get one that feels good at a safe speed, inclining him to enjoy something other than that requiring higher danger to his person. I agreed, I've been slowing down since getting the SR. In part I have to - there are more tight spots one can get into given the lack of power in over-taking. But moreso, the bike inclines me to do so, it's a real pleasure to ride at slower speed. That is the contrary to revvy powerful bikes. Has the SR had an effect on others' riding styles, and is it similar to what I'm saying? (I'm not assuming it is necessarily similar - a certain popular mod is not called cafe RACER for nothing!)

Yes I'm into that for sure , there's nothing quite like taking in a bit of the scenery on a good run ! (I do like a quick fang but trying to get to 300kmh should be left to KC on the track !) Too many roos, trees & drivers with hats in these parts ? Apart from that if I added up all my near shaves I feel that the luck has to run out at some stage so why chance it being a maniac! Cheers from Dave . Oh by the way , when you get to 47 life goes past quick enough so it pays to look around more and appreciate what you can see !

I like to thump along and sightsee, but for me the "SR effect" is that I love flinging it into corners. Also making the droning buzzbomb sound alongside cement walls, for everyone used to Harley sounds. miker

hi matt, your spot on with your theory, these things havent got the zip of a 4cyl bike when it comes to overtaking,i should know as i've got a gsx750w! as well, but the truth is every 5 times i go for a spin 4 will be on the sr! i've decided to put the gsx up for sale as its got nothing like the character of the thumper, enjoy it for what it is, they handle the twisties a treat.safe riding. andy

Yeah, you have to overtake really, really strategically on an SR.
When i was thinking about selling the SR a few weeks ago I test rode as many of my mates bikes as possible. I honestly don't know how someone can ride it without breaking the speed limit. Nice bike. I'm happy puttering along on my SR.

I agree with all of you,
Riding a SR is not about being fast it is all about the "grin factor", it is very rarely that I go for a spin on the SR and don't come home with a hugh (stupid) grin on my face. Quite often I take the long way home, just for the pure joy of riding the SR along a nice country road.

I'm happy riding the SR...especially since the traffic laws for speeding were revised here in Ontario, Canada a couple of weeks ago. If you're nabbed going 50km. over the posted speed limit, the cops can impound your vehicle for a week, suspend your licence, and the fine can be up to $2000 dollars...ouch. The government made the laws extra harsh because there's been lots of street racing deaths lately. Anyway, I'm glad I'm not riding a rocket anymore.

Yes, me too! I have always loved the SRs but I had been into high performance and sportsbikes for years as well. After owning a fair few and eventually breaking my back on an SP1, I decided to get more into the SRs again. A conscious decision I have not regretted for a second. To me the SR's are about modifications, shiny cafe racers, having fun through corners, etc. and all at legal or at least semi-legal speeds. They type you don't lose your licence for. They sound great, are fun to work on and you can be proud of how they look. As others have said previously, place them in a line up of modern sportsbikes and others and see what people look at...usually the SR. I love 'em! ;D Good to see you keeping yours as well Marlon! SR

The Sr is the first road bike i have owned as i have had dirt bikes since i was seven years old.
It really is a great handling little bike and always seem to draw attention amongst other bikes.
I have riden other modern sports bikes and they are a hoot to ride but you really have to go somewhere to ride them where you are not going to attract the law because lets face it they are not really designed to just cruise along at the legal limit.
It seems that there has been a bit of a shift back to the days of classic motor cycling and it has to be a good thing as the SR fits perfectly into this catagory.
All i can say is bring it on.

Funny thing today went for a big ride on the SR and took in the sights and sounds of our biggest town/city in the area. The thing being is that every time i pulled up for fuel or something to eat etc. i got the big look from every one around. I dont think they really knew what to think as my bike has no badges etc on it to identify what it is.
It is pretty cool though as when you fire it up and take off up the road they just have the look on their faces as if too say what the xxxx was that.....

They certainly are a class act I get the same response as you describe (mine doesn't have badges etc just Yamaha on the motor).Even those Harley riders who hate anything Japanese get caught up looking at the black&chrome ! I can't wait to get my next one a thumpin ! It'll give them all a run for their money too! ( ah yes those Harley riders with the wind in their face & the bugs caught in their teeth) haha cheers from Dave .
