So I went to the Flinders Touring Motorcycle Association swapmeet today. Just for a look to clear my head before putting the new gutters on my front verandah (i guess that would be a porch to our American members). No intention of buying anything, so I road my XT. Lucky a mate showed up with his car, cause I bought a bunch of spinach (wife loves the stuff) a TT500 kickstart lever and a flywheel rotor and stator for an SR. Will the stator mount up to an XT case, does anyone know? I see the possibility of converting to CDI and 12V. Didn't even realise how badly I needed all that stuff, till I got there. Mick

I'm not 100% sure because I have never done it but, I believe it should. The rest of the electricals would be a must have also.

Mick, The stator and flywheel fit the XT thats what I'm running in my motard. You will need an SR loom for the CDI & regulator connections. Then depending on what model XT you've got, you will have to splice some of or all your IGN & switch block connections. Have fun!!!!!! Curly

Thanks for the advice guys. I will put this little project on the list of things to do after I paint the house. The missus advises me that painting the house is not an optional chore. I figure I'll make myown rectifier/regulator, and wiring loom. Mick

Mick,
It will fit. The XT that I am riding in the state RT series is fitted with one of my SR stators and flywheels, plus the SR CDI and coil, and Rectifier/regulator, all hooked up to a barstadised XT500 wiring loom.
There is a bit of mucking about to fit the ignition coil, as the SR coil is a bit igger than the XT/TT coil. Also I have just sat the CDI unity on top of the std airbox and it is held in place by the seat jamming in place. Of course you have to change the battery to a 12v one, but there is a 12v battery exactly the same size as the std 6v battery.
I take it that you have seen the pictures I have posted of my XT and you can really power some descent lights with the SR alternator. I originally ran the 1978 XS1100 headlight fitted with a 90/130w quartz globe, which was very good but didn't give the penertration I needed in the night time special/paddock sections. For the 24, I fitted an additional spot light with a 100w quartz globe, and dropped the headlight globe back too a 55/60w one. Running the spot light does flatten the battery., but I only use it during the special/paddock section, as the high been from the head light is good enough for the speeds I do on the transport sections.

Mick,
If you need any further help/advice let me know, of if you could come for a ride over my way. If at any point you descide not to use the flywheel and stator, and wanted to sell them on, I would be interested, as I could then put the ones on my XT back onto the SR I borrowed them from.

Thanks CJ. Nearly gave you a shout today, actually. My riding mate was making noises about the Rhynie Pub run, so I thought we might be able to visit you on the way, but in the end he bailed. He only raised the issue over a drink at the RSL last night, which did not give me much time to sell the idea to the boss. Then today he reckoned it was too cold, too late by the time he shut the car yard, etc. Personally, I suspect the real reason was that he had one or two more Jim Beams than was good for him last night. He's got a flash new Fazer 1000 to run in, so it woulda been a very quick ride. We are definitely heading for Clare soon. Mick
