I have this headlight on my SR: www.omarsdtr.com/stheadlite.htmlI have it bracketed right now, which puts the unit outside of the forks. I am having cable routing and horn mounting issues. I need to mount it flush (up against the forks) like the manufacturer recommends. In doing so, I will need to relocate the horn and ignition switch. The horn should be fairly straight foward. I can even mount it inside the headlight box. The ignition is another matter mainly due to the amount of wires I am dealing with. I have thought about removing the switch, but want to make sure the headlight and tail light are operable all the time (I AM running a battery). Any thoughts?

How about mounting the switch like the early Hondas and have it on the front downtube on the left hand side?

On one SR500 I rebuilt I wanted to keep the ignition switch in the same basic position, but because the clocks were removed and a 'vintage' headlight was mounted it would have stuck up in the air like a dogs proverbials. So to drop the switch down flush with the level of the yoke I made two handsome 'spacers' out of two small size, but long length 3/8" drive sockets of the same outer diameter. I bought a set from a cheapo shop (+/-$5 the lot), used two the same od, junked the rest. With two longer bolts the sockets now look like deeply chromed custom spacers. I am sure I could find a picture somewhere if needed.

I actually like both idea's. The spacer concept sounds interesting, but I have to see if it will clear the rear of the headlight housing.

Do you really need an ignition switch? Is your bike left unattended in public places...if not why not simply replace it with a toggle switch? SR

Why would you want the lights on when the motor is off? If you had to, I think you could use a 3 position toggle.

O.K. I took your advice Stew and removed the ignition swith and installed a toggle under the battery box (very hidden). Once I reviewed the wiring harness schematic it was easy to see what I needed to do. I just jumpered the brown and red (wires) portion of the ignition harness and the lights stay on when the bike is off. I am not running a speedo with neutral, turn signal, and high beam idiot light, so I don't need the second harness coming out of the ignition switch.
Joneill4 - the reason to want the light on --> is if it is night and the bike dies, stalls, etc...............I want the lights to stay on for safety reasons. I decided to run a battery for this very reason.

Hi, As you say , nice and simple. Depends if you leave it sitting out in the World where vermin can get at it. I made up a small switch/idiot light panel so that I could see neutral and if the indicators were on. Also quite simple. Take a lock with you wherever you go if you need to. SR
