Ello! Does anyone out there know if xs650 tubes and steerer roller bearings conversion kit would fit on my 78 SR? I'm thinking of the ones from MikesXS.
All thoughts appreciated.

The steering stem is different so the roller bearings won't work. The fork tubes are the same, they should work.

I purchased a complete set of XS650 forks off of E-bay for around $40 including shipping. They bolt right on. This is much cheaper than buying tubes. I asked all the sellers, because there are many, if the fork tubes where not dinged, rusted or gouged. Also the forks I purchased were from an XS (1978) that had the adjustable fork caps, so you can preload the fork springs.
Thumperstuff has the steering head bearings for $38.00. Be sure to use anti-sieze when installing bearings so you or the next owner can pop them out without a sledge.

XS650s, 1977 and on share the same forks as the SR (early models up to 82. Not sure about the later ones). Rule of thumb the XS650 35mm forks are the same part as SR500 forks.
The SR head race bearing sizes are Upper: 25 x 43 x 11 Lower: 30 x 48 x 12
While XS 650 generally are Upper: 25 x 48 x 15.2 Lower: 30 x 48 x 15

Thanks for the replies guys, I'll look at some XS forks. But pickings are a little slim over here. To have my current fork tubes re-hardchromed would have set me back about $330AU but to get a new set of XS tubes delivered from the US is only $200......
