I live in Nevada, and bought a bike that has a Washington title. I will have to get a Vehicle Identification Number inspection to re-title and plate this bike. Can anyone tell me where it (the serial number) is found? I just want to be able to point it out to the inspector at our Department of Motor Vehicles. Most of my other bikes are on the frame at the steering head. This bike has a sticker on the front, which the powder coating shop taped over and left showing.
I can't seem to find it.
HELP!
Thanks guys.

Mine is stamped vertically down the right side of the steering head next to the sticker. Maybe the powder coat filled it in.

Thanks, I found it right were you said. 2J2-0___77 is all I can see. The one on the engine is easy visible of course. I hope the DMV is understanding today.

Well, I called the powder coating shop for advice. He said to take a razor blade and scrape along the top of the VIN holding the razor blade perpendicular to the frame. It worked great! I can now see the entire VIN and so did the DMV. I now have a street legal street-tracker! Pictures someday --> ?

My '80 model VIN # on the steering head matches the number on the right side of the engine case.
