I want to run a spoked rear wheel with a disc brake. I've got the swingarm for use with a disc brake from a 1978 SR500. Any ideas on a hub or wheels that will work? Something off of a XS650 maybe? Thanks in advance.

You don't need a disc brake on a light bike like the SR. Also you don't want to use spoked wheels since it will require using a tube and they are dangerous to use on the highway. Stick with the stock wheel and brakes.

After some modding, you can get something off a modern dual purpose bike to work. Look for the sprocket to have some sort of damper between it and the hub. It would also appear that for someone that lives in one of the hottest states (AZ), he sure loves the thin ice.

Yes, I've had enough of these shenanigans as well. The PM sent to me today from Steve was way out of line... On thin ice is an understatement... G Man

The reason for wanting a disc is that I am planning on rigging a linked brake system which is retrofitted from a 1982 Yamaha XJ100 Maxim. So the rear brake pedal will actuate the rear disc and the front right disc. The front brake lever will continue to actuate the front left disc. I want the LBS for better stopping power on my 1980 SR500 with Bingham sidecar. Plus it will be a cool mod. Spoked wheels: they look cool. Tubes: they work fine and are easy to repair on the roadside.
Any other ideas? I was thinking that an RD350 hub might work.

If you're lucky there is a hub available from an RD250C/D model...it was an interim model here and in other places as well. They are not simple to come by but they are not totally impossible. There is also a hub from a Yam TDR250 as well. Also not simple to find but they are around here and there. The Japanese customiser's often use these. RD250C/D... TDR250... TDR rear hub... See how you go. I am fitting a rear hub from a Suz DR650 to my new cafe racer...look here... sr500forum.proboards38.com/index.cgi?board=projects&action=display&thread=1648&page=4This will entail a fair bit of work in the end and I am fitting a new swingarm to it as well. Good luck. SR

Stew:
Thanks for the helpful reply. That's exactly what I was looking for. You are a wealth of knowledge. The hunt begins.
Man, I would love to add one of those TDR250's to the stable. I used to have a TDM850 and love it. I still have an RZ350 and love the two-stroke power. The TDR seems like the perfect hooligan bike. Let me know if you ever come across one for sale. I'll figure out how to import it.
Thanks again.

If you are, I don't get the joke. Your getting to be a waste of bandwidth. Think helpful thoughts and it will be OK. Thanks.
