My name is Peter Vlietstra and I live in Johannesburg, South Africa. I have bought and sold many bikes in the last 40 years, but will never sell my SR's. I bought a '79 model in 1984. Rather tatty and used oil. I bought another '79 model in 1987. The first one is at present a cafe project and I still ride the second one at least once a week. The SR is still motor cycling's best kept secret. I also have an SRX600 (3SX series) that I don't plan to sell. I ride this most days.

Welcome to the posi bra ! It is lekker here! One time Exair (do the still talk like that) I spent a year there in 84-85 but mostly in Capetown & Jefferies Bay. It must be fairly scary to live there now I should think?Did the SRs come with mags or wire wheels ? Cheers Dave.

Dave
Ja they still talk like that. Not really scary though and the best biking weather in the world.
My SR's are engine No's 2J2-110627 and 2J2-110695, both with wire wheels.

So they were the European ones that got to RSA that is interesting . You guys got a good mix of vehicles over there in the 70s-80s didn't you (holdens with chev badges) BMWs were well priced too if you got lucky with exchange rates. When I was there 80c AUS bought 1 rand ,when I left 1 Aussie dollar bought about 5 rand & I was there for 12 months ! I actually shipped my GPz550 back to Australia so I didn't lose so much money on it as it was only worth 1500 rand & I got $1800Aus for it here & it cost me 700rand to send it so if you do the math I made fairly good coin on it.I actually paid the equivalent of $500 Aus to buy it & I had trouble free transport for 6 months of my trip . I loved the weather there(very similiar to here in WA) & riding around Capetown out to the Cape of Good Hope is still one of the best rides I've ever done through Chapmans Peak & Hout Bay & the 4 pot 550 was perfect for the road too Cheers from Dave.

I hear you Dave, quoting the Rand gives me headaches every day(FX dealer)....good to see someone made money off,I never do!
Good to see and African here - if we can find a South American we'll have all continents SR'ed (not including Antartica)
Welcome Peter
