Doing a "deep cleaning" of the stock 78 carb... I pulled off the accel-pump-2 cover on the bottom of the float bowl (the triangular one, *not* the square one with the arm) and find I have a very small aluminum washer that I don't know where it goes.
Possibly the brass "pin" from the diaphragm pokes thru it? It also sits nicely over another hole in the main body, but of course wouldn't stay there once turned rightside up and there's nothing to keep it there.
None of my books, nor the online parts diagrams, show this part. Grrrr... Anyone know this washer?

Miker, I just did a pretty deep cleaning and somewhat blind reassembly of two stock 78 SR carbs (most parts were in a box). From what I know there is no small aluminum washer inside that valve's compartment. That is the pump safety valve by the way. However, when disassembling one of the carbs, I found a very small aluminum washer in the base of the accelerator pump nozzle chamber. This is the chamber directly oppposite the air adjustment screw (on the other side of the carb basically). The nozzle itself doesn't even show up on the carb diagram, much less that tiny aluminum washer. This may be what you are referring to. The OD of the washer was only 4 or 5mm at most. Small enough to fit into that chamber with the nozzle screwed in above it.

Nozzle - is that the brass jet-like thing that is screwed in the gasket face of the float bowl cover (with the O-ring around it)? The washer might go underneath that?
Hmmm... I did have that out right before, so it could be. I just realized I have a parts bike that the carb is still intact on, I can check both areas until I find the dam thing - I'll letcha all know. Thanks, emil!
Noticed that even with the float bowl cover completely stripped, there is something making a noise when you tilt it back and forth. I bet there's a ball-check in behind one of the permanant plugs.

Yes, that's it exactly. I have to say that my second carb did not have this washer. Post if your second carb had the washer. I also have that ball-check type sound when tilting the carb.

My second carb does indeed have the little washer there... in fact, now that I know what to look for it's possible to see the little step on the end of the nozzle pressed into it slightly. Thanks a bunch! I would have put it elsewhere and probably made a heck of a mess. miker
