Here's some photos of my 1980 SR500: Other than the dual front disks, it looks pretty stock. The sidecovers hide the K&N air filters (carb and crankcase vent; airbox removed) and the battery eliminator. Other changes: - Flatter handlebars
- XS1100 master cylinder
- Progressive Suspension fork springs
- Tapered steering head bearings
- Aftermarket indicators (were missing when I bought bike)
- Dunlop K591 tires
- New cam (stock), rockers, valve guide seals, piston
- High flow oil line to exhaust side of head
The vinyl seat finally gave out last year and started to tear. The tires are getting on in years and should probably be replaced. Every year I threaten to re-paint it, but haven't done it yet. Other than that no issues - it starts on the first kick and runs really well.

I Love that colour... If you do repaint it I reckon you should do a similar colour with possibly different pattern.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. If I ever get around to painting it, I've pretty much narrowed down my choices to a re-do of the current color (thanks to this web site I now know the color code too or possibly the retro Yamaha yellow and black style, like the old motocross bikes used to have. Decisions decisions...

Is this the type of paint scheme you are referring to...these were taken at our classic club rally yesterday... SR

Hey, thanks for the pics!
Yes, I was thinking of doing something pretty similar to the bike in your photos. I'd probably paint the side covers black to match the frame, and to make them less noticeable. And I don't think I'd put the "eyes" on the headlight, although that does look pretty cool!
