Saw this question elsewhere and thought I'd share...
The easiest way to remove yamaha badge from tank is... Dip dental floss in metho and start flossing between the badge and the tank. 0 tank damage, zero badge damage, takes about 2 minutes.

Except the SR500 marking on the tank is a decal or maybe it's painted on but it's not a badge that can be removed.

Removed the paint from my tank about 3 weeks ago.
The YAMAHA emblem appeared to be a sticker with clearcoat sprayed over it.
Came right off after a few shots of aircraft paint remover!

Later models have a plastic (I think) badge that was held on by glue...such as on this '96 SR500... SR

Yes I used a random orbit sander & that did the trick too ! The stickers are actually a pr#ck as the sand differently to the paint which isn't too bad on the metal tank but on the plastic its very difficult to get right cheers Dave.
