I was on the race track (Standard Bike except for exhaust) and we had a slight drizzle. The bike started missing and backfiring. I have had a similar experience 2 years ago. I closed the sparkplug gap and managed to get to a service station. Installed a new plug and away I went. Now the bike is completely dry, new plug but it fires once on kick and sometimes idles for a few seconds. Any blip on the throttle and the motor dies. I use clean fuel and have a fuel filter so I assume that the carb is ok. Could it be CDI ?

I've had the bike for 15 years and had to replace the stator 10 years ago but otherwise it is very reliable.

defintly water has got in some were, have you cheaked the plug lead and cap for splits? i had a SV650 that would miss on the front cylinder in the rain, but was fine once it had all dried out again.

Cleaned the Carb, no water or dirt found, made a jig and checked the CDI, all ok, Checked the resistance of pickups, OK, changed the spark coil, no difference, new spark plug, still no difference.
Does anyone have an exploded view of the carb with accelerator pumps etc shown ?

Found the fault. Woodruff key in the flywheel had sheared and moved the timing !!!!!
