My tank is leaking from the back of the tank at the bracket. the first time i sealed it with gas sealer. the second time i used epoxy. it helped for a good while. should i reseal it with epoxy again? or has anyone else had this problem, and has a better idea.

hallo pablosrfivehundred,
clean it weld it
but take care, clean the inside of the tank thoroughly to prevent explosion.

Yes I agree with Sjef...I have seen this problem before...luckily not on mine though. SR

Get it welded. But purge the tank with carbon monoxide first. Just drain it, run a tube from a running bike or cars exhaust into the tank for a few minutes. My tank leaked at the same spot (rear bracket).

Well...when I got the tank welded, That's what the welder did after draining every drop of fuel. I guess purging the tank with carbon monoxide removes any fuel vapour. The welder didn't blow up so it must work. And the tank hasn't leaked again in over twenty years.

guess you mean carbondioxide? Carbonmonoxide is rather toxic(Will bind to hemoglobine instead of the oxygen, great way to die) and likely to combust combined with heat and oxygen.

My thoughts are: carbon dioxide acts as an inert gas, that doesn't allow oxygen and gasoline to ignite under heat, which is what we're used to our engines doing. It essentially fills up the tank and forces oxygen out, I believe?

Yes carbon dioxide does act like an inert gas preventing explosion. I welded up my xt tank last week by draining the gas and giving it a rinse with soapy water stuck it onto the exhaust of my car for a minute and then hit it with the TIG welder. Welded up sweet.....
