Hello
I am new to this forum, although I have owned a SR 500 1979 since 1999.
I am thinking of buying a new fuel tank and am considering Goldstar replica in aluminium. I have discovered a few suppliers on the internet.
I have questions regarding what thickness and grade of aluminium that is appropriate.
For example, VD-classics have a tank for EUR 960 made of 2 mm, 6060 grade aluminium.
WBO-racing has one for EUR 530 and they use 1,6mm, AL99 medium (half) hard aluminium.
I understand that 2 mm is more than 1,6. The question is if the cheaper alternative is good enough and all I really need, or if it is best to go with the more expensive tank.
I would be grateful for suggestions and thoughts concerning this.

As long as you're not dropping it, hitting it with a hammer, I don't think the 0.4 mm would make a huge difference, seeing as the tank just sits there, and isn't structurally integral, I'd go with the cheaper if they look same, and are finished to the same quality

Interesting that You have visited him, what can You say about the quality in the handicraft? A small picture only says so much, to have experienced the tanks in real life gives a much better picture.

The extra thickness might help in vibration resistance? I notice most of the Triton-type bikes mount the tanks on padding of some kind.

Hallo, VD classic has his tanks from the tankshop and daytona japan. Daytona tankhalfs are deepdrawn and welded together, excellent quality. i guess daytona tanks are cheaper at www.vanem.com.au, i have seen work from the tankshop:makes a very good impression, drawback: deliverytime can be several months.WBO tanks are bought by Kedo restrenghted and then sold to the public.and still need a little padding against the vibrations regards sjef btw have a daytona tank myself ;D
