I want to improve the range on the old girl, as anyone tried to fit a XS650 tank onto the SR frame?
The front mounting tabs look very similar.
Thanks

G'Day Fred,
A std unmodified XS650 tank will not fit onto the SR frame due to the width (diamaeter) of the main frame backbone. I have a modified XS2 650 tank fitted on my cafe racer, however it is really only the top of the 650 tank welded onto the bottom section of the std SR tank. I can't remember the capacity of this tank, but it would not be much more than the std SR tank, and was only made/fitted because I liked the shape of it.
I also have a XS650C tank hanging on the shed wall that I was going to modify to fit the SR, but the front of the tank is too wide to allow the use of clip handle bars, so the job has never been done.

Hi, SR400 tank is 14 litres...would help out nicely with the range. SR

Sr400 tanks are bigger than the original SR500. I never would have guessed that.
Next question is, I am guessing the best place to buy one is from Japan?
Thanks

Deus sell the ones they take off some bikes on ebay from time to time. $300 AUD.
But I'd recommend speaking to Vanem first.

XS tanks were 3 US gal (Special) and 4 US gal (Standard).
Seems to me the mounts are inverted - i.e. my Special has the rubber things on the tank, and the SR has them on the frame.
