Does anyone have a Yamaha parts diagram illustrating the front drum brake assembly on a European SR500? I am looking specifically at the bracket holds the drum to the fork. I don't have a SR, but am trying to locate a part number or track down a bracket for sale to use on a Yamaha XS650 front drum. I hear it fits..... I'm also interested to know if there are any offset spacers or special hardware that attach it. Also, do you know if the fork lowers are aluminum on the SR500 as well? Thanks in advance! skott

Not sure about the drum front SR as the ones we got here (U.S.) where all disc front. But, I can tell you that all the fork lowers on all SR500's are aluminum and will mostly interchange with the XS650.

The XS650 has a disc brake too, not a drum (at least in the US) so you aren't going to find any parts like that.

Hi Scott im in the UK and acording to my haynes manual all of the SR's had disc front brakes, its only the XT and TT had front drums incededntly they dont have a bracket , just a lug cast into the bottom of the fork leg that fits in a slot in the back plate of the drum,, i think your right that the early uk XS650's had drum fronts.

I have a drum brake wheel from a '70 xs, and you are correct that they fork usually had a tab welded to it to act as the brake stay. The bike and the bracket pictured is supposedly from a European SR500..... just thought someone on the board might have a bit more information...

That's your first mistake, there is no such thing as a '70 xs.

The 1970 model was the XS1. It had a drum with a notch cast into the plate, according to the parts list.

Skott, you want to fit an SR-drum wheel into an XS650 with disc brake? That should be no problem, if you use the thingy in your pic. All SRs, either disc or drumbrake versions use the same fork. But not all XS650 forks are suitable, early models had d267mm discs, and the caliper is mounted closer to the axle, you'll need a later model with 298mm disc.

I have here the European parts book for a 1971 XS1 and XS2. The 1971 XS1 has a 200mm TLS drum front brake. The XS2 has a single (girling) type disc brake.
Due to the rarity of the XS1 item you would be better off looking for a similiar TLS front brake from one of the air cooled two strokes, YDS7 or similiar.
The part number of that bracket is 1JN-25192-01. You should still be able to order this new from Yamaha.
It is only the 35mm forks from the 1977 model XS650 (not the model C) and later that will fit the the SR500. The early models are completely different. Also the earlier XS650 forks are slightly different between markets, as I found out to my cost ordering parts from the States.

Thanks a lot aero and sjef!!! I think that is the information I was looking for!!! Now i just have to find a way to order the part here in the US :-)
On a side note, if SR500 front drum brakes would swap to a XS650 that would be interesting to know. I mainly frequent the XS boards and people are always looking for the XS1 drum brake for cafe style bikes. Price for a complete wheel with that has neared $280+ USD for that part alone. If a conversion could be done, and those wheels are handy, someone might be able to make a few bucks!!!
