I was wondering if anyone have any experience shipping bikes overseas. I'm looking for an XS650 from the states and want to have it shipped back to Hong Kong. (since we dont' have these here.) what would be around the cost..
Here's what i know so far:
bike need to be drained and battery disconnected or removed. bike need to be crated Paperwork <- this i have no clue what I need. then the rest is just normal Shipping stuff (by boat)
anything else?? thanks in advance!

I haven't shipped one overseas, but I think the most important thing for you to do is to check with your local or federal licensing agency to see if an XS can even be licensed and registered in your country at all. If the bike has not been imported there before, it may or may not be allowed. The red tape involved could be overwhelming. G Man

It's actually not that bad to get licensed in HK. we have a "safety" and a "environmental" test. Usually, safety is just a visual inspection, and environmental is just the emission test. after that, they'll give you a license It's kinda weird how this stuff works in HK, we have cars and bikes from everywhere.. for example, there's like SRs that are 96/07.. 96 means production year..maybe imported used or parts bike -from japan, and 07 means first got licensed in HK. Same goes for cars too... worst case scenario is we have to put a "repairer" plate on it. (which many ppl do here for top performance cars that cannot pass emmission.. like Ferrari F50's, Enzo, and I've seen one McLaren F1... ) these plates are issued to repair shops for transporting between shops.. as long as it has blinkeres and brake lights.. you're good to go! Cheers, Kit

What are the emissions standards it has to pass? I still have to check the technical data. But a fellow mechanic tells me that cars 20 years + can be classified as antique and don't need to pass emission or safty.... let me do some more research tomororow and report back! kit
