here is my 'new' XT brought cause i couldnt find an SR! it was smokeing when i got it running so i rashly striped the top end with a veiw to replaceing the vale stem seals, as the inlet valve was very oily, though have read the technical posts im also suspecting wet sumping, (im hopeing its one or both as i cant afford a reboer right now!) whilst waiting for the parts i busied my self with blast cleaning the head and powder coating everything in sight, so i like choclate brown what can i say plans for it arte first of an MOT follewd by a pod filter and a home made titanium exhaust, made from a recyled R1 system. after that im going for a BratStyle chopper or if i realy enjoy rideing it as is a street tracker

Nice bike! I consider myself to be a recycling freak myself, hence I have so much junk in the garage...... I mean parts that can be remade to fit something else! To stick my oar in, if it needs a rebore, do it. Buy a wiseco piston, not a Yamaha, the guys on the XT forum seem to think they last longer. You will regret not doing it when you have the engine in bits. I built up an XS650 engine with a selection of 'the best parts' for a girl who didn't have much cash, it took the same time to do as a proper job but the motor just ran sick and only lasted 4,000 miles. A frame like this? (one I built earlier- Jig built from seemless tube with an SR500 headstock, yours for £250 with Reg)

LoL yeah your right Solo, i got it realy cheap! but ended up haveing to make the carrier for it! and it didnt work very well as i originaly used the xs master cylinder that was way to big, made a world of differnce when i swaped to a grimecca MC from a scooter. but it still looked wrong!
Thats one of the things i like about the XT is the drum front brake, it'l perfect for a chop ;D

Oh and regarding the brown powder, in my delusional dreams it reminds me of some brown HRC magnisum covers (spect they called it bronze!)

Hi, a question which I think I'm in the same situation. "wet sumping" is that or can it be that the oil makes it to the bottom of the engine through the oil pump and/or from sitting a very long time. Oh yes, was is the resolution of this. I just picked up a tuff xt with 1 &1/2 engines, thanks in advance Dave
