Hi all, Just thoguht that I would post a picture of a bike one of the mates in Broken Hill is building. It isn't a SR500 but at least it is using a TT500 frame! The owner of the bike is Chris Fraser from the Silverton Hotel, some what famous for his V8 LSR bike. Chris has done most of the work and Rob Wilson from Premier Sidecars has been doing some of the work with the mounting of the engine into the frame. The night I was there, (drinking homebrewed "vegimite" beer , more than helping in anyway) was the first time the engine had been bolted up problery and the boys are now working on trying to get the 4 expansion chambers to fit. The engine, if you don't recognise it is a Yamaha TZ750. Chris's aim is for the bike to be a loose replica of the famous Kenny Roberts TZ750 dirt tracker. He is still trying to find a set of forks to replace the leading axle one currently fitted, plus numerous other bits needed to finish the bike. CJ

I suppose when you've ridden this: , a TZ750 replica seems like a nice run around?

Depending on the state of tune, 120HP at the crank. I had the opportunity to work on a TZ750 back in their heyday. It was for Greg Smrz in 1983. His tuner, Phil Flack, is a good friend on mine. He ended up 3rd at the end of the season when the AMA still had a Formula one class.

Yes there are a lot of mad guys out in Broken Hill. Must be all the minerals in the air...heh, heh... My brother was there recently talking to some SR guys...there's a few SRs there being worked over for Lake Gairdner. He came back impressed. They would not have been happy about it being off this year! Guess my brother and I will have to take up the challenge as well...family thing. TZ750 trackers...take it to Morgan and put it on the mile! You'll have to remove the rear brake though... SR

I am not sure if Chris is going to ride the bike in any kind of "anger". When we were drinking and talking about it the night I took the picture, there were many mentions of another freind, Jimmy Horgan doing the test riding. Back in the late 70,s Jimmy used to race a speedway sidecar with a TZ700/750 engine. Although I don't think Chris would have much trouble on the bike considering some of the things he has ridden and the fact that he has won a couple of Aust longtrack sidecar titles (1/2 and 1 mile dirt oval racing). In the early 80's I helped him fit and setup a Suzuki RG500 Mk8 road race engine into a Suzuki GT750 chassis for longtrack, It is very scary as a passenger doing jetting runs/plug chops on public roads on a sidecar that does 130mph with no brakes. He eventually built another longtrack outfit with twin RG500 engines (a rectangular 8?), which he also ran at the Pondee sand drags in the late 80's in solo form!!

I was up in The Hill over the weekend and dropped out to the Silverton Hotel to see Fraz and check how the beast was comming along. As you can see it is comming along nicely, with only a few minor detail bits to do to be finished. I told Fraz, that I DON"T want a ride on it when its up and sorted, call me a chicken if you want and I will happily don the yellow feathered suit! CJ P.S. Stew, I meet up with Glen out at Silverton and we had a bit of a chat about your Salty ambitions.

Hi Colin,
Yes he told me about it...might be interesting out at Gairdner in a while...the SR underclass!
It should be fun, hmm, not sure About the TZ...wonder if it'll wind the frame up when the power goes on...dirt only! Seems like a fun thing to try...maybe...heh, heh...
SR ;D
