Hey Guys!
What sort of clothing do you guys wear on the road?
Anyway, I'm a big fan of the traditional cafe racer look, Brando jacket, leather jeans and tall engineer boots, but I'm having some trouble finding ones i'm happy with, especially Jackets with some armour in the elbows and decent traditional looking boots. I'd also give my left teste for a set of decent gauntlets with knuckle protection.
Anyone got any ideas as to where they go? I've seen some pics in dice of the best d**n looking Engineers in Japan, but can't find them online for love nor money.
Cheers,
Marlon

I got some pretty cool 70's alpinestar boots from a second hand shop. I wear 'em with my jeans cuffed at the bottom, not tucked in. Ebay is a good spot for those. Vanson has some pretty clean vintage styled collar-less jackets for a bunch of money. I just ride in an old Bates leathers "cafe racer jacket (brown.) Cheap, but it kept the skin on my arm a few years back in a less-than-graceful moment I had. That "left one" your putting up for the gloves could get you some Icon gauntlets or pair of sweet Redwing engineer boots.

Motociclo in Sydney has gauntlets, and they carry double-h engineer boots i think, I'll check again when i go in for some beemer bits. Last tme i went in they had an magazine in there getting lots of Rocker gear for a stylised shoot or something, so they have a fair bit of that gear.....i really like the Davida classic jet helmets Jackets are a tough one - to find the right look with the armour. The lewis leathers ones look unreal, but the $1000 price tag is scary, but man they are really really nice.....i'd be happy to just have one hanging on the wall to look at What? thats not weird.....

A good used Brando jacket made for motorcycling can be got off eBay for $100 - I got mine (in almost new nic) for $50! Mars Leathers in Elizabeth street will then put armour in it for $150. I was going to adorn mine in Brit bike badges, but my partner talked my out of it and into sticking with the classic look. I wear army boots (so does my Mum!). Draggin Jeans should do for the denim, though I made my own (however Draggins are better looking). Nobody else understood the rolled up cuffs, so I got rid of them. Next summer, I'll wear a shorty open face for slower local rides - there's a place in South Melbourne that sells them on eBay for between $50 to $80. I'm glad I've found a fellow rocker to ride with! (When our bikes are actually going!

Haha, I used to be a little jewish skinhead a while ago, but it doesn't look right wearing oxblood docs on a SR! The temptation to get an open face is almost overwhelming. I'd probably get a pudding basin with a leather facemask, aka Mad Max from Davida. The only thing that puts me off is I know the one time I wear it, i'll come off. And I'm ugly enough as it is without bits of road sticking out of my face! I also remember the time I was taken to Honda driving school when I was in year 10. We all piled into this room ready for a 'talk on motorcycles'. This poor guy who was thirty wheeled himself in on an electric chair. He was a quadroplegic, and he said he wanted to warn us about motorbike accidents. Sh*t. But then he turned around and shocked us all when he said we should all ride a motorbike sometime in our lives - it's the most fun he's ever had. But he had a low speed dirtbike off, less than 20k an hour with an open face helmet. He smacked his chin on a rock which forced his jaw back into his neck and the sametime his neck was snapping back... and it severed the nerves in his spine.. Poor bastard. I don't like the look of the full racerboy setup, even though it's the safest, but I don't want to wear an open face. I've got a black plain Shoei lid that's pretty good. Milky, those Lewis leathers are amazing. But... that's actually 1000GBP! Holy... sh... that's a bit steep. Matt, i didn't realise i could get armour added to a brando. I checked out Mars leathers today and hit Rocker goldmine. Completely standard looking Brando jacket with armour for around $500. Only problem is it has brass buttons, which I'm not fond of. They also have some good tall engineer boots, so i may have solved that issue. Matt, I don't mind your idea of sourcing a brando seperately. I'll have to get one a bit bigger because I plan to start wearing a back protector... Keep the suggestions coming! The boots i really, really, really want are these (Thanks for the link Milky!) But at over $700AUD, it hits a bit hard! Still, If i keep them for ten years.... Hmmm. Anyone know of any similar boots that can be had much cheaper? I also don't fancy ordering shoes over the net. Spending that amount of money, getting them here and then finding out they don't fit.

Hey, cmon Rich, I'm not that bad, I'm just dreaming out loud here! - Marlon and us kids (under 30) on this forum weren't around when you guys were wearing them "back in the day" The website heritage section is cool if you want to look at some Rocker styling, www.lewisleathers.com/It is AUD Marlon, not GBP, still hurts, but anything with the name attracts the prices, even on ebay. Blame Sid Vicous You would get more than ten years out of teh boots if you lok after them, the odd re-sole etc

Hi Marlon, The traditional look is OK. For boots I wear RAAF flying boots or black Alpinestar GP boots...leather jacket but a cordura touring style jacket in the cold Canberra Winters... Wear warm gloves in the Winter and don't underestimate the need for protection...I am sometimes 'guilty' of putting style before safety...hence I wear the DAVIDA pudding basin helmet and thin gloves on the little Ducati on classic runs. However I always wear decent gear if I'm out out for a 'ride'. Luckily, when I've needed it I have had the good gear on, and never underestimate the worth of good gloves, leathers and a full face...just my opinion. Here's some of my collection...$260 gloves but worth every cent to me... ...the Rossi helmet next to this one is severely grazed as well...open faces look good but offer no protection to your face as indicated above...your choice of course... Still, you could add a leather mask to your open face, for 'safety', and get one with the skull image such as these on eBay: they're pretty... 'cool' Or 'ninja' NB the persons in these photos are adults!

Haha, heaps of Harley riders wear the skull masks. I'd be good to get one made with my face on it. Or not really. But i'd get a giggle out of it.
Stew, nice collection of Gloves! My sister has some too that look very similar. Without the carbon-fibre knuckles she would have taken a lot of skin and bone off. She also wasn't wearing kevlar jeans, and now has a huge, horrible purple scar across her knee/thigh that will be with her for life. Speaking of ruined gear, got any pics of your racesuit when you came off?
It's going to be Mars leather Brando with armour, some Mars leather pants (Maybe with armour on the knees/thighs, but i want to see how subtle they can make it) and i'm still trawling the net to find a cheaper alternative to Lewis boots, but in the same vein.
I've found some reasonable boots, look alright, but they have a steel shank and toe cap. I've heard various things about steel caps, and would be interested in your guys opinion on wearing them...

It's hard to get the steel toe under the gear shift on rearsets.

Without the carbon-fibre knuckles she would have taken a lot of skin and bone off. I have a mate who ground his carbon fibre knuckles down as well. I have to wonder if leather would grind away like that, however, or whether the purpose of the carbon fibre is more akin to body armour, and if it is its rigidity that causes it to grind, whereas flexible leather would not? some Mars leather pants (Maybe with armour on the knees/thighs, but i want to see how subtle they can make it) You can get good-looking leather pants from Black Rose Leathers in South Melbourne. If you buy them off ebay they are listed at $95, and have wide armour which is subtle. It means you can go in and fit the right pair.
