Just wondering what people are using for a crankcase breather filter (I have removed the original airbox and have a K&N filter for the carb). Is it as simple as fitting a filter, or do I need to consider air pressure in the crankcase as well?

Hi, Try a small K&N breather filter on the end of about 12" of rubber hose... You can see one here on the side of my black cafe racer... SR

What sprocket carrier have you got there? I was looking at turning mine down to clear a small rear sprocket.
Think I've just answered myself, that's an XS rear wheel?

Hi Aero, Yes, it's actually a TX750 rear wheel but you are right, that's why...these wheels have a larger drum than the 650 but are otherwise pretty well the same. You could go smaller still in size if you ever needed to... On the breather filter topic, I personally am not fond of the type that goes straight onto the breather outlet...I have seen a few that end up smelling of oil all the time with them on...maybe they are a bit close to the engine. Having said that I have seen a few others that don't have the problem... SR

Yeah, i've got one of those Stew, and I don't like the positioning of it.
It's filthy as hell, and actually makes it quite hard to clean the engine without dumping water and degreaser down the crankcase. I should measure up some hose and rig something up like yours.

If you were keen you could make something similar to the one I had made for the DCM...you can fit tanks in a lot of places depending on the setup you have...this is under the tail of the single seat: This uses the same type of filter that is sometimes fitted to the crankcase spigot... You can also fit a small reed valve to the inlet of these to prevent excessive pressures in the crankcase...such as possibly pushed Rick's countershaft seal out on Saturday at the races...(the 400s have a seal retainer now I've noticed...might make something for this myself). Thanks Stew, Not sure if I have the ability to build a breather box like that but reckon I can manage a filter on the end of some hose!
cheers Stew

Yeah,i've put a breather on the stub of the crankcase,i reckon it does the the job o.k but it gets a bit smelly at standstill,i see why some of you route them towards the rear now!
Regards,Andy

It'd be simple to remedy...a length of rubber hose...a length of steel or alloy tube the same dimension roughly as the crankcase spigot and away you go...oh and some clamps as well of course...or ties. SR
