I am strongly considering not running a keyed ignition system on my bike.
Do any of you guys (mates) know which wires I need to splice together to keep the ignition system operational, so the bike will still start & run?
As always --> Thanks!

The ign. switch shorts out the black/white wire from the CDI to ground to kill the engine when you turn it off, so to eliminate the switch just disconnect the wire. You will still have to add a switch to connect the red and brown wires to connect the battery to the lighting circuit though and brown to blue for the tail light.

Why are you considering this? I've thought about it simply for the pleasure of pairing down the bike's components to as simple as possible. It would suit the battery eliminator mod nicely. My ignition key lock doesn't work anyway - I use a disk lock at all times - so it would be safe security-wise, not that anybody else is capable of starting an old SR unless they're a seasoned owner.

heh heh heee. I tossed the keys to a mouthy mate who reckoned he was gonna jump on my bike and steal it. It was a lot of fun watching him wear himself to a frazzle with not a hint of response from my baby as he sweated and swore, and his missus yelled at him to get off before he broke something. When he finally gave up, I got on the bike, gave it a kick with the decompressor pulled to clear it out , then she fired on the next one. Definitely proofed against the casual walk by thief. Mick.

I have rewired the ignition switch to allow for head/tail/CDI power etc. It runs. I am intentionally test running it on starter fluid it I don't get a run away. To kill the bike, do I need to have a cut switch in my CDI blk/wht wire to the black or cut switch elsewhere?

Is the run/stop switch on the right hand throttle grip still connected or is it stripped down to even more basic than that?

More basic than that. All controls removed. Speedo and Tach still present because they are mechanical. Headlight, Tail light, Gauge lights and neutral light are the only "accessories". Built pretty close to 'CDI race' wiring style except I did not ground to frame, I kept the circuit looped from the battery to the regulator to the CDI. With the magneto attached to the regulator as well. I kept the CDI 'cut' that grounds the CDI when the wire is grounded and kills the bike. I just would rather have one less switch and ONLY have a switch on the neg side of the battery.
