Has anyone tried the "TORK" HEAD-PIPE INSERT from Thumperstuff that's supposed to add 2%-4% power? I got one and put it in but I don't know if it works since I have nothing to compare it to.

I asked this question a few months ago and there never was a definitive answer. Carl's expertise was called on but I think he missed the thread. Carl, if you see this thread, I'm still interested in knowing too.

After driving with it in for a while I took it out today to see if I can tell any difference. It seems to run the same but I think it's actually harder to start now.

I emailed Mark Apland about it and he said that he's seen dyno run comparisons that claim about a 1hp difference... not enough to be easily detected, but for those who are looking for every little bit, it should help. I asked him where the extra power kicks in at on the RPM range and he said it mainly improves bottom end, but does have some effect throughout the range. Sounds like it would be good for a trail bike application but for freeway driving I'm going to leave it out.

Steve i could belive it might make starting esier as it will be adding back presure to the exhaust that will have the effect of a choke?

Well now I'm not sure. The day after I took it out the engine was hard to start every time but today it started on the first kick again nearly time. I guess I was just having a bad day.

I designed one years ago and had a place in Brisbane make them after coming back from Japan and seeing them there, I think if the muffler design was wrong in the first place it would help by stopping the bad reversion wave from re entering the engine [ like most aftermarket mufflers for these bikes] but when we tried one on a bike with a healthy motor/exhaust combo on the Dyno it killed it big time, I would like to see someone try one who is running a supertrapp style muffler to see if it helps, am willing to supply it for free if it helps. but for most of us out there, save your money. as they say... sorry I was slow in picking up this thread. cheers, Carl.

I have a Supertrapp and didn't see any difference with it in or out but then I didn't do any dyno runs either.

OK, that is good, now I know. The loss would only be about 2 to 3hp anyway, and the engine would need to be under load to measure the drop anyway, not something most of us would notice under normall riding conditions!!cheers.

I have used these in the past on race bikes, like most performance mods it makes about this much difference (hold your finger and thumb up with about an 1/16" between) You can not feel the difference in the seat of your pants so it is minor, but it can be measured which means it is real. I would lean toward the 2% side of torque increase.
