The main bolt at the steering head (name? - that one you remove to get at the bearings..."steering head bolt" is a guess) has come loose now twice since I bought the bike last June. It does it gradually over the space of a week or two (I ride most days). Is this a likely symptom of something in patricular? For all I know the head bearings are original, though I don't notice any problems with them, and the suspension is crap such that the bike - and I - absorb every bump in the road, so maybe those two things need replacement and excessive vibration and shock is just working away at the bolt. Does that sound right? I simply tightened the thing back up, went on a long ride today, and everything was dandy!

Mine is on it's 3rd speedometer but the steering bolt has never come loose. Go figure.

I had that prob once. I'm not sure what I did to remedy it, but it came loose like 3 or 4 times. I usually clean parts with solvent any time I take them off (OCD I know!) maybe just getting the oil out of the threads did the trick. If not that then maybe a little drop of some light thread locking agent could keep it where it belongs.

Yes, I'm fitting a new speedo (XS new old stock) this week! Somebody on here has a tag about the spiritual significance of loctite! Matt
