Anyone able to give me a history lesson on the SR mufflers? I currently have a HD Sportster muffler and want to upgrade to a better sound and look (w/out waking family). I also have a tiiight budget. Any masters out there able to clue me in on what, why, and $?

All I can tell you is that my SR came with a Supertrapp when I got it. It is absolutely gorgeous, but IT IS QUITE LOUD!!! It is also anything but cheap. It also did not last two years before it broke in half.

Awesome, thanks for the info. Do you know if the either the Megaphone or the reverse megaphone have any fitting problems? I am currently sporting a taper tip style just like what is listed on that page. Would the megas be louder than the taper style?

Email Mikes, they should be able to tell you about noise levels. The mufflers you asked about are listed as fitting the most common header sizes found on SRs. mikesxs@aol.com

you might be able to get a second hand conti off a bevel duke, they work OK on stock bikes.

Give a post on what Mike's told you. I too am considering an alternative pipe that is quieter. My SR came with the stock, chrome pipe (which weighs a TON!) and a Supertrapp which is way too LOUD!

Yep, you don't want a Conti then! Good if you want to counter the neighbour's "Barry Manilow" music though...aargh... SR

Yep, that red Honda looks just like the 500 Ascot we got in Canada. After a couple of years Honda gave up on the single-cylinder and re-introduced the bike with a 500 V- twin engine. (Shadow engine) Everything was the same, except the motor.

Just stirring dormant brain cells - wasn't the Ascot single chain drive and the Ascot V was a shaftie?

It's been few months, and still no answer. I've had to back burner this anyways for more... "needful" things.
