Well done mate!!
I wish my xt would fire up that easy, from what I can tell I dont have any compression at all, not to mention the horrible sound the chain makes as I push it along...
Keep us informed as I like the idea of returning old bikes to their former glory, that's the great thing about thumpers nice and simple (but not as simple as a two stroke lol)
Cheers, Raff

Gah, the weather has been a for the last two days. Coldest April day on record with high winds, rain, snow and lite hail. Anyway, we managed to find half of the original carby, the original blinkers and a set of newish instruments my uncle got of ebay when he was thinking of fixing the SR up. it's going to be a while before I can start any real work on her (no job ATM , and I'm still working on my "learner bike"), so I will just be doing minor things and price gathering for a while. As for the key issue, the key hole in the fuel tank is the wrong shape for the keys I have. Noticed two more problims as well: engine casing that goes over the clutch is cracked (see second pic above), and the swing arm has a bit of sideways movement, needs new bearings/bushes. i'm not sure what it is suppost to be. So do I, having spent about $800 so far to fix up an old two stroke as a learner bike. My apolagies to Dave if I sunded like a know it all prat. Ouch! good luck with that one! are the internals OK, or are they rusted up aswell? Thanks. She only started that easy because of the low compression!. She still needs that top end rebuild I would say. Good luck with the XT - the chain isn't hiting on something is it?
