I hate to start a new thread, I know there are dozens of carb ones already but I can't seem to get the search func to operate correctly...
...anyway, stipping the SR down this past weekend I fit the carb towards the end of the day. Slapped it on before closing shop and was confused slightly at the spigots and tubes on the Mikuni....where they all install to.
To be clear this is the standard Sudco Mikuni VM36-4 that Thumperstuff provides.
I know this is a bit hard to explain without pics (the lady took the camera!)...but bear with me.
-On the right hand side of the carb, there is one reg. sized spigot with a pink tube (up near the choke) that runs down...I assume to be an overflow?
-On the left hand side there is a larger vertical spigot near the rear/exh side of the carb body....I assume this to be the fuel intake?
-Left hand side fwd on the body/near the intake there is a much smaller dia. spigot.....the vaccum that hooks to the petcock? (typing this from memory)
-left hand side, between those two, almost mid on the body is a regular sized spigot with a pink hose to it.....another overflow???
Do I have that correct? Am I missing anything?

You are correct, the one under the carb is an additional overflow.
I have the same carb install, let me know if you need pictures. Fred

Thanks Fred! hmm, I just wasn't prepared to see 3 overflows I guess. So all three pink tubes are overflow, and the other two are self explanatory. Great!

I've just installed one of these on my new (almost finished) project & there certainly is no shortage of overflow tubing for sure! What size jets did you end up with?I compared the main jet with my stock carbies main (I put on my blue & white apron)& drilled it out to the same size(1.5mm). It worked OK but I'd like to give it a better run to see how it performs uphill & a long straight(I'd like to dyno it but the nearest is 3 towns away(80ks) ) Is this a normal thing to do or am I a rough fukcer cheers Dave.

Dave- The Carb (kit) came with a recommended size installed, then 4-5 additional jets for tuning. I haven't kicked it over yet to see how it does...so I really haven't looked at the size either. I'll check it out and let you know.

That would be great! I think we have the same carb(mine is a 36mm flatslider),I got it off a mate who got it off ebay for his TTR250 but never used it.(It was brand new but we never new the origin of it?) So hence the drilling as I don't have the tuning jets. One other problem I'm not sure how to overcome is hot starting is a bit of a drama! I'm sure Yamaha had this problem with the bikes in 78 as they have a hot starter on the stock carb that can be a godsend at the service station . There doesn't seem to be a problem cold or after a half hour break but after 5-10 ks its a push in second gear & its off & racing. The other trick is to remove the spark plug ,squirt in a dribble of oil, give it a kick, put the pug back in & give it a kick works good . This method is ok in the shed but not an option on the road .Anyway post your results I'm keen to hear cheers Dave.

I've actually told a lie! the carby that I've got looks to be a HSR flat slide . The measurement inside the bore on the engine side is 36mm, I'll make a new thread for this cheers Dave.

cool, Mine is the VM series round slide anyway.
I had memorized those 6 jet sizes, but then drank a few brews and forgot...doh!
